Celebrating the Good Work at Auchingarrich Wildlife Park
Amidst recent negative press fabricated by a disgruntled former employee, we at Auchingarrich Wildlife Park want to take a moment to share the positive impact we’re making as a charity and Perthshire’s only zoo. Under the dedicated leadership of Managing Director Alexa Reid, our team of highly qualified staff works tirelessly to uphold the highest standards of animal care, conservation, and education.
Our Commitment to Animal Welfare
At Auchingarrich, we prioritise animal welfare through a thorough governance structure. Our charity is overseen by a board of trustees and guided by an ethics committee that plays a crucial role in discussing and addressing all animal welfare and zoo-related issues. This committee ensures that our practices are not only compliant with the Zoo Licensing Act 1981 and the Animal Welfare Act 2006, but also align with best practices in animal care and ethical standards.
We undergo monthly inspections by our veterinary team, regular assessments from the local authority’s animal welfare team, and inspections from zoo inspectors as part of our licensing requirements. We are proud to comply with all regulations and maintain transparency in our operations.
Conservation and Education Initiatives
Our commitment to our charitable objectives is evident in our efforts towards animal welfare, conservation, and education. We are proud participants in the Saving Wildcats initiative and currently house a Scottish wildcat, hopefully with more due to arrive shortly. This programme is vital for the preservation of this endangered species and is shared with the numerous schools and charitable groups that we support.
Our newly developed Australia Zone is another highlight, featuring kangaroos, kookaburras, wallabies, emus, galahs, and more. This immersive experience not only provides enjoyment for our visitors but also educates them about the unique wildlife of Australia.
Moreover, we are home to two Asian short-clawed otters, a species listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List, as well as the largest flamboyance of Chilean flamingos, also recognised as endangered. We are strong advocates for conservation and species preservation, actively raising funds to support these critical efforts.
Engaging the Community
At Auchingarrich Wildlife Park, we believe in the power of education. We host regular daily informative talks, allowing visitors to learn more about our animals and the conservation work we do. Additionally, we offer one-on-one animal experiences, fostering a deeper connection between our guests and the wildlife in our care.
Join Us in Our Mission
We invite our community to support our mission and celebrate the positive contributions we make to wildlife conservation and education. Together, we can continue to create a safe and nurturing environment for animals while inspiring future generations to care about our planet and its inhabitants.
Thank you for standing with us during challenging times. We look forward to sharing more success stories as we continue our journey in animal welfare and conservation.
