Ren joined us a few weeks ago due to her guardians frustrations over her behaviour. Adolescence can be a really difficult time for young dogs, and it’s really easy for them to make what we consider poor choices. After spending a little time growing some foundation behaviours, we’ve been helping Ren to make some good decisions and grow alternative new behaviour patterns which we can reward. She’s a highly motivated and incredibly quick learner 😍

Our final puppy graduates of the year! Huge well done to Clifford, Dottie, Gruff and Blodwen (and their humans) for all their hard work the past 6 weeks. All 4 have smashed the basics for loose lead walking and recall, along with the foundations to help with focus on their human around distractions, tolerance of frustration and how make good decisions 🫶 if you’d like to join us for the next intake, the next class begins 11th January https://app.acuityscheduling.com/schedule.php?owner=29235594

Cuteness overload 😍😍😍
Who could resist that fluffy puppy and his gorgeous eyes - you just gotta get one, right? Then it will be non-stop cuddles and idyllic walks on the beach and through the countryside, followed by a relaxing cuppa at the local cafe.
And, sure - hopefully that's where you'll ultimately find yourself.

Before then, what people don't talk about so much, is surviving puppy-hood and adolescence. No-one talks about -
👿The biting
☠️The inappropriate chewing
🫩The lack of sleep
🥴The destruction of your routine
👿The biting
💩Toilet training
👻Becoming isolated from social groups because your puppy cannot/will not be left
😵‍💫The tedious repetition of consistent training
👿The biting
💩Regression of toilet training
🤡Destruction of your home and garden
👿... Did I mention the biting?
👻Becoming a social reject due to your adolescent's embarrassing behaviour

But we DO talk about it 📣A lot! We help you understand why it happens and how to set both your puppy and YOU up for success - we can even do this before your puppy arrives home. That doesn't guarantee it will be easy, but we hope to make it easier☺️
(And for the record, the puppy in the photo has grown in to my pride and joy - he was THE HARDEST puppy, though 🥴)

This is the dog owning dream, right?! Love this picture of Daisy, her human and little bro, Max. Walking Daisy like this was never the problem, but getting Daisy to the walk in a manageable way was becoming ever more problematic for her human due to their health. Daisy’s human is absolutely determined that walking Daisy is part of looking after their own health, and so some time was spent looking at loose lead walking protocols. Safe to say, Daisy aced the session and is now super mindful of her human and pace while the lead is attached 🥰

Happy birthday to the best teacher and sidekick a dog trainer could ask for 🎂 I’ll never forget the gasp of horror from my dear behaviourist friend, when I told her I was bringing home a puppy from an unplanned litter between 2 working collies who’d thus far been raised in a farmyard shed with the chickens - and, as ever, she wasn’t wrong 🫣😂 There’s no doubt he’s made me the trainer I am today, and that he’ll only continue to challenge me to improve myself. Happy birthday, Quillbert - posh biscuits from Betws and turkey dinosaurs for you today🥰

Super proud of this pair of wrong ‘uns! Yesterday, Piggie Smalls and Rocket came along to a secure field to check out how one of our dog clients gets on with other dogs off the lead. You may remember Sabine, who joined us at the start of August, when she was rehomed from a local charity. Sabines human is very conscious of her unknown history - and of the assumptions many other dog walkers will make due to breed type. They were, understandably, nervous of allowing her access to unknown dogs in uncontrolled environments. Flip side, we need to avoid frustration associated with denying her those interactions. The life skills training we’ve worked through to this point has had a huge focus on Sabines ability to disengage, which is often key in interactions with other dogs. Safe to say, all the hard work is paying off, and Sabine behaved beautifully with this pair - despite Piggies inappropriate advances once he got to know her 🫣 Picture illustrating the session, as I was far too busy observing dog behaviour and training to take videos and photos 🤦🏻‍♀️

Two of this weeks 121 newbies - very different breeds and life stages, very similar struggles! We’ll be working with both dogs to grow their general life skills and develop their relationship with their humans. Once again, it’s fantastic to have meet people so invested in their dog and hoping to enhance their dog’s lives through their training. Where’s the weirdest place your dog’s chosen to take a nap? Rocket has chosen the kitchen table this morning - obviously the most comfortable place when you’ve two sofas, two raised beds and the cushion covered kitchen bench to choose from 🙄🫣🤦🏻‍♀️Also, Rocket, manners?!
