Sleep Tight Charlie McAleesey🐶💔
Charlie was born in Sweden on 11 July 2014 & moved to Northern Ireland in October, to his dream family The McAleeses. Charlie was the kindest, gentlest dog I have ever met (& I’ve met quite a few!) Charlie didn’t have one bad bone in his body & he got a family that were just the same.
Sophie (aged 8)was petrified of dogs when he arrived, a bouncy, playful puppy but Charlie knew this & not once did he jump up on her. Olivia dressed him up, took him took to puppy classes, trained him in agility( not sure if he enjoyed it as much as Livi did!!)
The McAleeseys took Charlie everywhere they went, sunsets at Mussenden, sunrise picnics at the Whiterocks, New Years’ in Donegal, Chinese takeaways in Castlerock.
Unfortunately 5 years ago Charlie had a bad accident & it took a year for him to recover. Carol & Alan never questioned a vet bill, they spoon fed him, they toileted him,rehabilitated him continually and Charlie was able to run, play & eat by himself again. Once more he lived his best life. His sister Svea moved home from Sweden later that year & they were reunited, walked together, had sleepovers & many new adventures. Unfortunately earlier this year, Charlie’s injuries caught up with him & slowly he lost the power to walk. Once again Carol & Alan never questioned a vet bill. I have never seen a family sacrifice so much for a dog. Weekly vet visits, home cooked food every day for months, Carol never left Charlie for more than an hour alone. She pressed the pause button on her own life. Once again they had to do everything for him. Charlie adored each one of them, still wagging his tail and crawling to get cuddles. He never complained & was still so happy. We question ourselves… when is the right time to let them go & stop their pain, shall we do it or not. As dog lovers, it is the hardest, most excruciatingly painful, heartbreaking decision to make. For the McAleeseys, their strong Faith guided them & today their little Charlie went to heaven. From the bottom of my heart & from Charlie’s - Thank you Carol, Alan, Olivia & Sophie for being the best family Charlie could ever have wished for.
