🌡️ Sorry... a little rant/explanation post! 🐾

I don't usually post things like this, but I wanted to explain why I sometimes have to rearrange appointments during extreme hot weather.

The welfare of the dogs in my care will always come first. That includes my clients' dogs, my own dogs who come to work with me every day, and myself.

The two photos below were taken less than an hour apart this morning. The salon went from 30.1°C at 11:26am to 30.7°C by 12:18pm - and that's before the hottest part of the day. Even with fans running, once the salon reaches temperatures like this, I simply can't keep it cool enough for dogs to be groomed safely. (I finished work by 12.30 today)

Most of my clients have been incredibly understanding (thank you ❤️), but I've had a couple of people question why I've rearranged appointments.

I completely understand it's frustrating, especially if your dog is overdue or struggling in the heat. But in my professional opinion, the risks of bringing them into a hot salon outweigh the inconvenience of waiting a few extra days. Heat stress, breathing difficulties and heatstroke are very real risks, and I simply won't take that chance.

Rearranging appointments isn't something I do lightly. It creates a lot of extra admin, means trying to fit everyone back in, and yes, it also means I lose income. It's certainly not the easier option for me. But no appointment is worth risking a dog's welfare.

I'd much rather apologise for rearranging an appointment than ever have to apologise because a dog became seriously unwell in my care.

Thank you to everyone who has been so understanding and supportive. It genuinely means a lot. ❤️

The dogs' welfare will always come first. Always. 🐶

🌿 Annual Leave: 19th - 27th July 🐾

Just a little heads up that I'll be taking some annual leave from 19th-27th July.

I'm not going away, but I'll be enjoying some time at home, getting a few jobs done around the house, catching up with family, and spending quality time with my four little fur babies. 💕

I'll still be grooming on Wednesday 22nd & Thursday 23rd July, but outside of those days my replies may be a little slower than usual while I take some time to recharge.

Thank you, as always, for your patience and understanding. I'll be back to normal after my break, refreshed and ready to pamper your pups! 🐶✂️💛

🩷 A lovely surprise landed through my letterbox today...

I've been nominated for Best Pet Grooming Business in the Essex Retail Business Awards 2026! 🐾

I have no idea who nominated In The Doggy House, but if it was you... thank you. It honestly means so much.

This year marks 13 years since I started my grooming journey. During that time I've become an International Certified Master Groomer, competed and placed in grooming competitions, had the privilege of judging competitions, and built the little business I'm so proud to call my own.

Every dog that comes through my door is treated like one of my own, so being recognised like this is really special.

Although I won't be entering the awards this year, I wanted to say a huge thank you to all of my wonderful clients. Your support, loyalty and trust mean more than you know. ❤️🐾

☀️ Another Heatwave Incoming... ☀️

With another hot spell forecast next week, I just wanted to give everyone a little update.

At the moment, it looks like temperatures will be around the 30°C mark. While that's still very warm, it's a lot more manageable than the 35-37°C we experienced last time.

I'm going to take each day as it comes and assess things hour by hour. If it remains safe to do so, I'll be working as normal.

If your dog is elderly, has breathing problems, heart conditions, or any other health concerns, please use your judgement too. If you'd rather postpone their groom, I completely understand and would much rather you put their wellbeing first.

If I feel the salon becomes too hot or it's no longer safe to continue, I may need to make changes to the day's appointments at short notice. Although this does affect my business and income, these decisions are never taken lightly and will always be made with the dogs' welfare as my number one priority.

Thank you all, as always, for your understanding, patience and support. ❤️🐾
