☀️🐾 HOT WEATHER PET SAFETY REMINDER 🐾☀️
The sunshine is lovely, but rising temperatures can be hard on our furry and feathered friends. Keep everyone happy, cool and safe this warm spell:
🐶 Dogs
• Walk early morning or later evening when pavements are cooler
• Check the ground with your hand — if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for paws
• Keep fresh water available all day
• Cooling mats, paddling pools and frozen treats can help keep tails wagging
🐱 Cats
• Make sure fresh water is available in different areas of the house and garden
• Provide cool, shaded spots for naps
• Watch for signs of overheating such as excessive panting or lethargy
🐹 Small Animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and more)
• Move hutches and enclosures out of direct sunlight
• Keep plenty of shade and airflow
• Frozen water bottles wrapped in towels can create cool spots
• Fresh greens and water are essential in warmer weather
🦔🦜 Garden Wildlife
• Leave shallow dishes of fresh water out for birds, hedgehogs and other garden visitors
• Add pebbles or stones so smaller creatures can safely climb out
• Avoid strimming or disturbing shady hiding places during very hot days
❤️ A little extra care in the heat goes a long way.
