FMC Dog Grooming

FMC Dog Grooming I'm a dog groomer in Carnbroe/Coatbridge ML5

It's not a salon setup, I work alone from home (shed outside), so I work with 1 dog at a time.
(1)

It's an appointment only system, I can't accept walk-ins and a deposit is required to secure booking.

Customer Feedback

As a groomer I will always feedback any information on how the groom went, how the dog coped etc.

I was trained that its important to be honest with owners so they understand the stress their dog may be under while its in our care.

This means describing how 'difficult' a dog can be at times. I'd like to think I always approach it professionally but it is never intended to make any owner feel embarrassed or uncomfortable. Often owners apologise and I tell them there is no need.

It also isn't about me moaning or trying to get out of doing that dog. If I gave up on every dog that gets stressed or has sensitivities then I'd have hardly any left.

Truth is, some dogs cope quite well and some are hard work...its just the job. Please think of it like getting a report from your kids teacher where they may need to tell you that your child is 'playing up' or struggling with algebra, I'm sure you would rather know these things and try and help your child, and it certainly doesnt mean the teacher doesn't want to teach them anymore.

Communicating with each other allows me to offer some advice to owners that they can perhaps work on inbetween grooms to help the dog, and also make the groom process easier to actually get a groom the owner wants.

HAVE YOU HEARD OF A 'COMFORT GROOM'???

This is a term in the grooming industry which is mainly for senior dogs, but also a dog with fairly serious health issues or after an operation etc.

A groomer should always put the dogs well being first (physical and mental). A 'Comfort Groom' is the kindest thing to do, to make it as quick and comfortable as possible.

A Comfort Groom means the groomer will do their best but that certain steps may need to be adjusted to suit the dog or certain things can't be completed to the standard it once was. For example, the nice fluffy long hair it once had might need to be kept short (because shaving short is a much less stressful process for the dog).

As a groomer myself, I will always discuss this with the owner.

Senior dogs will most likely cope much less as they get older, arthritic pain being the main issue so the dog can't be put into positions it once could before, or stand for as long.

Other factors can be skin issues, hair loss, hearing/sight issues which add to anxieties or stress.

Obviously these factors may apply to a younger dog that has health issues too, or a dog following surgery until its fully recovered.
