I am often asked by clients why I transport there pets in cages and not on the clients lap the answer is one: It is illegal to transport an unrestrained animal in a car or van it could result in a £5000 fine and 9 points on your license as well as your insurance potentially being voided combined with them being safer in the cage should any accident occur. You should check your insurance to see if you are covered . We as a company carry an additional insurance to stay legal.
Some pets can be worth thousands of pounds, I once transported 10 puppies to the vets to be vaccinated each one was valued at £2000 a total of £20000.
If a owner uses and un licensed pet transporter should the unthinkable happen you may have no redress to claim for on any insurgence, especially as transportation over over 40kl requires a defra 2 license I hope this is helpful to pet owners every where regards laurence.
