Tin Acre Equestrian Freelance Services

Tin Acre Equestrian Freelance Services Offering clipping and show prep throughout the year alongside backing/schooling livery and horse sitting Any work considered, ring, text or pm for availability.

Tin Acre Equestrian offers freelance services mainly clipping/trimming and show prep/plaiting but I’m also available for occasional holiday yard cover/pet sitting, riding (location dependent) and have the occasional space for schooling, sales and backing livery. Based at near Holsworthy, Devon I'm prepared to travel to jobs. My name is Morwenna Barnicoat, I have owned and ridden horses from a youn

g age, I have competed for pony club, enjoyed hunting sidesaddle and now compete regularly in riding club teams, British Eventing and British Dressage. As a teenager I broke in and rode on a variety of young horses to be sold, then I studied and completed a National Diploma in Horse Management at Bicton College.Whilst at Bicton I obtained my BHS Stage 1 Care, BHS Stages 1,2 & 3 Riding and BHS Riding & Road Safety. After college I continued to break in, ride on and sell other peoples and my own horses. Before moving to Devon I worked for a dressage rider based in Cornwall with horses working up to and beyond Advanced Medium and competing at Advanced Medium. In this job I've had sole charge of up to 15 horses, exercised warmblood dressage horses, handled dressage youngstock, exercised and schooled hunters, assisted with foaling, turned out horses and youngsters for competitions and futurity and backed and ridden on two warmblood 3yos, one of which is a stallion. I've now set up in Devon as a freelance groom and I'm also able to offer pulling trimming, plaiting and help breaking & schooling, amongst other things..

CLIPPING PAYMENT CHANGES

I now have the ability to take contactless card payments through my banking app

I’m hoping that it will help be more convenient for some of you

If an invoice is required for clipping I’m more than happy to provide one

Payment is required on the day via BACS, cash, card or cheque if you will not be around and I’m helping myself either cash/cheque needs to be left or BACS before

I’m not very good at chasing people and having been ignored numerous times over the last 6 months by different people when I have chased I’ve decided I need to change how things are done

Yes if it’s an emergency/welfare issue and you might need to wait until you’re paid with full transparency I will help if I can - life happens but please don’t take the p**s!

Good morning, this year I will be changing how I do things

I have decided I will no longer be offering traditional sales livery

I’m happy to have horses and ponies in for schooling to prepare for sale, even get some videos and photos for sellers to use and I can even write your advert if you’d like

We’re happy for you to bring the horse to us so I can ride it for the viewing (although if I can avoid this I will) with the owner present, providing it has been with me for schooling and with owner speaking to any potential buyer but I no longer wish to be involved in phone enquiries and negotiations

It is becoming so difficult to please everyone (both sellers and buyers) and I find the process of traditional sales livery on behalf of a client very stressful so I’ve decided to step away from it

Of course I will have horses for sale but these will be our own that we have produced or are with us to sell under extenuating circumstances and a separate agreement not weekly livery

I hope that makes sense to anyone reading and of course I’m happy to answer any questions/ enquiries

Thank you

Pic for attention of Hannah who is generally in charge of twisting into ridiculous positions to get THE picture - obviously no one needs to see a picture of Anita and me looking like moulting chickens during the process

First off road canter hack for Ulysses and he nailed it, one happy baby here

I’m not a huge thoroughbred person and given his first tantrum learning to long rein I was fairly sure he was going to be a tricky one to get under saddle HOWEVER he has pleasantly surprised me in every step of his education so far

He loves his work, is forward, relaxed and has an amazing attitude
I can rely on him to be a grown up pony when needed and I’ve enjoyed the journey of getting him ready to go into training, I could ride around going on adventures all day on him

Magic pony is loving going hacking ✨ and visiter Drayco getting stuck into his longreining

Dear Ulysses had his front shoes on today, finally, after an abscess had stopped us in our tracks

Then to save the yard babysitter as she’s got a jump lesson later we were planning on taking the 2 babies out together, this was semi scuppered by an ill child 😬 however Ulysses lead the way keeping Sennen and Nell safe on the inside with Isabella babysitting Jess behind

What a fantastic attitude he has to his work and hopefully he will carry this on, he’s a joy to work with

🐴 Why We Love Long Lining and Groundwork for Ex-Racehorses

Long lining and groundwork are absolute game-changers when it comes to working with ex-racehorses! Here’s why we’re so passionate about incorporating these into their training:

✨ Builds Confidence – New environments and tasks can be overwhelming for an ex-racehorse, but groundwork helps them learn in a safe, controlled way.

✨ Develops Balance and Strength – Long lining encourages them to work evenly, improving their frame and helping them adapt to life outside of racing.

✨ Improves Communication – It strengthens your bond and teaches them to understand your cues without the pressure of a rider.

✨ Gives Them a Mental Reset – Groundwork allows them to focus, relax, and think rather than relying on the high-energy reactions they’ve learned on the track.

✨ Perfect for All Levels – Whether your ex-racer is fresh off the track or transitioning into a new career, groundwork is a great foundation for any discipline.

Groundwork and long lining help set ex-racehorses up for success and create a partnership built on trust and understanding. Have you tried long lining or groundwork with your horse? Share your experience in the comments! 🐎

The boys having their first go at long reining and it’s fair to say they’ve cracked on nicely

At this stage I just let them find their way around and work out that they go in front.. the steering, speed etc will follow in the next few days
