Today is the last day of May, and sadly we still haven’t reached our JustGiving fundraising goal after three months of campaigning 😓

We are however at 66% of our target which is amazing! We cannot thank everyone enough who has donated over the past few days. Every contribution has made such a difference to our rescue residents.

However, we need do need to be honest about the future of the rescue. We are now having to seriously consider what comes next if we cannot get back on our feet financially. Like so many rescues facing increasing costs, we are at risk of closure.

We simply cannot afford to close when there are so many small animals who need our help, care, and rescue spaces.

To put things into perspective, this week alone we have spent ❗️£374.44❗️ on providing the high standard of care our residents require and deserve.

Shadow had an urgent appointment on Thursday after he started passing a lot of blood in his urine.

He had x-rays which showed both gas and a stone, just as we suspected. Our vet is concerned that the stone may be lodged in his ureter (the tube between the kidneys and the bladder) 😓 but to confirm its exact location, Shadow will need further x-rays taken under anaesthetic.

He has been put on anti-inflammatory medication and his fluid intake has been increased. Our vets are hoping this will help the stone move either out of the ureter or into the bladder, where it can be removed more safely.

Our poor sweet boy has been an absolute trooper through all of this. We know how easily these little loves can hide things when they’re feeling unwell, so we are grateful that he still seems bright and comfortable in himself otherwise 🙏🏼

In total Shadow’s costs came to a total of 😱 £219.44 😱 for anyone who would like to support us during these difficult times.

We are still trying to raise £1000 towards our JustGiving fundraiser which we have been trying to raise over the past couple of months. We really are starting to worry about the future of the rescue if we can’t get back on our feet again 💔

Chip update 🦷

Chip was back at the vets on Thursday for a check-up, one week on from his dental, as he has been unable to eat for himself and had worryingly lost weight.

Our vet feels that he may just need a little more time to adjust to how his mouth feels following the procedure, and we’re hoping with continued care and support that he will gradually begin to pick up. He will be due to be seen again in 3 weeks if he continues to do well, otherwise he will need to be seen sooner if he doesn’t improve.

He is being closely cared for and supported by his forever foster carer, Lauren, who is supporting him with critical feeds to help him during this period while he is unable to eat on his own ✨

Our lovely Isaac was neutered yesterday and is recovering well ❤️‍🩹

Once he is fully healed and ready, he will be searching for his forever home to join some friends, so please keep your eyes peeled for his adoption post ✨

Well, we certainly had quite a day yesterday 😅

People often don’t realise just how much hard work, dedication, and commitment that goes into rescue behind the scenes.

As well as Isaac’s neuter 🐀, Chip also had an urgent appointment to make sure that his teeth were all okay after his dental last week, as he has still been having trouble eating.

While waiting for the boys, we managed to catch some time for ourselves, a frolic in the woods, a pit stop for a Biscoff milkshake and a very kindly gifted brownie from the amazing Nature on the Go 🥹 (which we HIGHLY recommend, by the way - please be sure to follow them and check them out). Shortly after, we received news that Shadow was passing blood in his urine, and needed an urgent appointment which we will do a separate post about to update you all on 🙏🏼

We left the house at 8am that morning and didn’t get home until 9pm.

Days like this are exhausting and emotional, but they reflect the reality of rescue work and the level of care our animals often need.

We also want to highlight just how amazing our foster carers are. We could not do what we do without the incredible support they give to our residents. It was also the little things yesterday from both Lauren and Chloe that really helped us get through such a hectic day ✨

Chip is back at the vet this morning for an urgent appointment. We’re quite concerned because he’s still struggling to eat on his own. Although he’s being supported with critical feeds, he has also lost weight, which is worrying us.

He really wants to eat, but he just can’t, which must be so frustrating for him 😣

Right now, we are struggling more than we ever have before 💔

Three months ago, we launched our fundraiser in the hope that it would help secure the future of our small animal rescue. So far, we have only reached 43% of our target, and the reality is becoming impossible to ignore. We may not be able to fully reopen for future rescue intakes.

This is heartbreaking for us to even write.

We are currently closed while we focus on the animals already in our care, many of whom desperately need ongoing veterinary treatment and support. Every week brings more costs, more appointments, more worry.

Nova, one of our guinea pigs, is currently receiving palliative care after being diagnosed with lymphoma. Jack & Chip both have ongoing dental issues requiring treatment and monitoring. Ben has developed a lump that needs veterinary attention. One of our rats is going in for a neuter tomorrow. Alongside this, we continue to care for several other animals with underlying health conditions and daily medical needs.

We are a rescue who is committed to providing high standards of care, because every animal deserves the very best.

The bills are mounting on top of all the usual rescue costs — food, bedding, medications, and emergency care.

We never wanted to be in a position where we had to question whether we could continue. Small animals are so often overlooked, abandoned, or bought on impulse, and rescues like ours are their safety net. We cannot bear the thought of becoming another small rescue forced to close its doors forever.

If you are able to help us in any way, please consider donating, sharing our fundraiser, commenting on our post or supporting us through adoption. Every single share, every pound, every kind word genuinely makes a difference right now.

PLEASE adopt, don’t shop. There are so many animals waiting for loving homes, while breeders and pet shops continue to profit. Rescue animals deserve a chance 🐾
