Hand stripping 📝
Why Handstripping is Worth the Investment 🐾
Some breeds (like Terriers, Schnauzers & Spaniels) have coats that are traditionally maintained by handstripping rather than clipping.
Here’s why it’s so beneficial:
✨ Maintains correct coat texture – wiry coats stay crisp and weather-resistant. Soft fluffy coats, stay fluffy!
✨ Preserves natural colour – clipping can fade or dull coat colours.
✨ Promotes skin health – removing dead coat by hand encourages fresh, strong growth.
✨ Comfort for the dog – the old coat comes out naturally when ready, a bit like shedding.
🔎 What about spaying/neutering?
After spaying or neutering, many dogs’ coats change. The texture can become softer, fluffier, or woollier, depending on breed and they may lose that classic feel. While handstripping still helps, it often takes more work and may not achieve quite the same finish as before. This is when the coat can only be clipped!
Why is it more expensive?
💪 It’s time-intensive – every hair is removed by hand, not just clipped.
🎓 It requires specialist skill & knowledge – not all groomers are trained in the correct technique.
🐕 Each session is tailored – every dog’s coat, history, and tolerance are different.
👉 Handstripping isn’t for every dog, but for the right breeds it keeps them looking (and feeling) their very best. Investing in the correct grooming for your pup helps them stay healthy, comfortable, and true to their breed’s look. ❤️🐶
