⛈️ Thunderstorm Safety Tips
A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is in place from 3 pm Saturday until 4 am Sunday across much of northern England . These storms may bring heavy rainfall, strong gusts, hail, lightning, and surface flooding.
What you can do to stay safe:
• Plan ahead — try to wrap up outdoor activities before mid-afternoon
• Seek shelter indoors once thunder is heard — you’re within striking distance
• Avoid open fields, hilltops, and lone trees
• If driving, slow down carefully, leave extra space, and watch for standing water
• Secure outdoor items (e.g. patio furniture, trampolines) before high winds
• Unplug sensitive electronics to guard against power surges if lightning strikes
• After the storm, check gutters and drains for blockages and stay alert to surface water hazards
