Please be aware at Connaught Waters

Our teams are currently responding to an outbreak of avian botulism affecting some of the waterbirds at Connaught Water.

Avian botulism is a naturally occurring wetland disease that can affect ducks, geese and other waterbirds. The bacteria responsible are associated with particular environmental conditions, and outbreaks can have serious consequences for local wildlife. Understanding and monitoring these events helps our teams respond quickly, and builds a better picture of the complex ecological processes affecting wetland habitats.

Our staff are carrying out regular monitoring and removing affected birds to help limit its spread and protect local wildlife - but we need your help.

If you're visiting Connaught Water, please:

🌳Keep a respectful distance from waterbirds.
🌳Do not approach or touch birds.
🌳Report any concerns to our staff at [email protected], or comment on this post.
🌳Take extra care around the water's edge. Please do not let dogs enter the pond or approach wildlife.

Check your dogs paws ears armpits groin area after every walk ! I’ve seen so many foxtails / grass darts in the last couple of weeks on the dogs I’m grooming 😢

It could save a lot of trouble

Hi everyone ☀️

Just a quick message to let you know that with temperatures forecast to reach the high 90s to 100°F this week, especially on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday, I will need to make some changes to appointments because the heat becomes too extreme inside the grooming van.

As much as I hate having to rearrange anyone, the safety and comfort of your dogs always come first. Working in very high temperatures can be uncomfortable and potentially unsafe for both the dogs and myself, even with fans and cooling measures in place.

I'll be keeping a close eye on the forecast and will contact anyone affected as soon as possible if appointments need to be adjusted or rescheduled.

Thank you so much for your understanding, patience, and continued support. It really is appreciated. ❤️

‼️‼️GRASS SEED SEASON IS HERE‼️

Please check your dogs paws , between toes , under armpits , groin area , eyes , ears and noses all over basically . They are horrible , once embedded they can cause cysts , infections and can even travel once they are under the skin . If your dog is licking his feet check for seeds , shaking his head check his ears . You will need to go to the vet to get them removed. Check after each walk 🐕
