Long but important post.
So last month I made a mistake by breaking one of my own rules set out for my ladies in my business. I walked in an isolated area, alone and without informing anyone I was there.
It was cold and raining so I went into the woods. Cut a long story short, I was followed (stalked) by a man and his dog up a very narrow path whilst he shouted crude comments about my attire amongst other things.
I ended up turning around and confronting the man, luckily having a dog that doesn’t take kindly to such things. Most people know that I have a policy for my ladies that in isolated areas we walk as pairs or we have a track app on with coordinates and alert systems in place. I’ve been in this business for 13 years and have been in and been put in, many situations over the years that should just never occur.
We have had catcalling, inappropriate language, messages, touching and gestures made towards us. Just today I’ve had a construction worker be completely disrespectful towards me whilst others stood by idly watching, allowing this behaviour. This is not ok!
Whilst I usually have very thick skin, after hearing another dog walkers horror stories, I felt something needed to be said. I will not tolerate this towards my ladies. They have every right to respond how they choose and you will be reported to the appropriate authorities or your employers.
We shouldn’t have to deal with this. Please, do better.
Thank you for reading.
