FOUND

We have had 2 stray cats brought into the practice today, who have been found in different areas. Neither have a microchip.

🐾 One is a large neutered male and was found near the co-op in Newbold. He is currently receiving treatment with us.

🐾 The other was found in Dunston and is a very young, black domestic longhaired entire male.

Please contact the practice if you know who they might belong to.

Everyone meet Remy. 🐶

Remy visited the practice recently for his 1st vaccinations and stole our hearts. With those big ears, expressive facial expressions and his impeccable behaviour, Remy was a super star ⭐

What breed do you think Remy is?

Ear mites, also known as Otodectes cynotis are parasites that enter your pets ears and if left untreated can cause irritation, discomfort, a foul smell and inflammation. They are a common problem that can affect pets at any age but are extremely common in puppies and kittens.

Ella is a 12 week old cocker spaniel who came in for her 2nd Vaccination. Her owners had noticed she was scratching her ears. Amy one of our RVN's took a swab so she could look at it under the microscope. She discovered a little wriggly ear mite! Vet Angeliki diagnosed Ella with ear mites. She requires ear drops for the next 2 weeks which will help to eradicate the mites.

Ella was a super patient and took everything in her stride.

Our feline loving Registered Veterinary Nurse, Niamh was in her element yesterday when she had this handsome patient to spend some time with!

Niamh did a great job of making sure he felt cosy and safe when he visited us for his castration surgery

We are wishing Stanley a speedy recovery ❤️🐾

– 🐾 Keep Your Dog Protected! 🐾

Did you know that keeping your dog’s vaccinations up to date is crucial for their health? Vaccines protect against serious diseases like leptospirosis, distemper and parvovirus, which can be life-threatening.

The WSAVA (World Small Animal Veterinary Association) Vaccination Guidelines have been updated and are now advising UK Vets to vaccinate against leptospira bacteria with the Lepto 4 vaccine. This vaccine offers broader protection than the previous vaccine (Lepto 2), therefore keeping your dog protected from a wider range of potential infections.

Make sure your dogs’ vaccines are up to date so they can enjoy all the adventures life has to offer!

We are now unable to get the Lepto 2 vaccination which we used to stock, so all dog boosters will routinely receive the Lepto 4 vaccination.

🐾To provide full cover for the additional strains of Lepto, a second vaccination should be given 28 days (4 weeks) after the first one. When booking in your booster, please bear this in mind and make sure you are available to bring your dog in on both of these days.🐾

Its going to be a hot one today with highs of 31°C!!🔥
Here's some tips for making sure your pets remain cool and comfortable.

We advise you not to walk your dogs until later in the day when the sun has set and the temperatures have dropped.

🆘️️If you suspect heatstroke, pour cold/ice water over your pet and drive them to the practice immediately in an air conditioned car.️🆘️

Wildlife often struggle finding water during heatwaves too. Leaving water sources around your garden will help. 🦔
