☀️ Warm Weather & Your Dog’s Paws 🐾
With the warmer weather, there's been some dogs coming in with old, peeling skin on their paw pads. This is often a sign that they’ve had blisters from walking on hot surfaces, such as pavements, tarmac, or even artificial grass.
🔥 Why does this happen?
Dog paw pads are tough, but they aren’t heat-proof. When surfaces get too hot, they can burn and blister, just like our skin. As these blisters heal, the old damaged skin can peel away, leaving sensitive new skin underneath.
🐶 How to protect your dog’s paws in summer:
Test the ground with your hand — if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them.
Walk early morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler.
Stick to shady paths, grass, or woodland where possible.
Consider protective paw balms or boots for extra protection.
💡 If you notice peeling, redness, limping, or discomfort, always seek advice from your vet. Affected paws may be sore and at risk of infection.
👉 Keeping an eye on your dog’s paws helps them stay happy, healthy, and comfortable all summer long.
