⚠️ HEATWAVE ⚠️

Here we go again folks, another scorcher! I'm suffering already but that's because I'm Ginger. 🫠

Imagine then how our beloved pups must feel in their fur coats with nothing they can do about it. If you can't hold your hand to the pavement for a few seconds, imagine what that does to a pups paw. 😬

Heatstroke kills. It's that simple. A dogs body temperature needs to raise by something as little as 2°c before the effects kick in. I see stories of dogs dying or becoming seriously ill year in and year out and it breaks my heart.

We don't take cancelling our walks lightly but the safety of all our dogs is paramount. Anything above 24°c and we will instead have enriching garden play. We also have to consider the air temperature/humidity, if we've had a stretch of hot weather which will also keep things hot and muggy. Car travel time, even short distances are a risk! 🥵🥵

Dogs don't die from missing a walk. But this heat is no joke. It can kill.

Here are some tips for surviving the heat:

😎 Plenty of fresh water available.
😎 If you must walk, aim for early morning or late evenings.
😎 Shade is your friend!
😎 Frozen treats such as kongs
😎 Get the pool out if that's an option!
😎 Cooling mats or damp towels to lay on (works for humans too 😉)

Please contact your vet if your pup shows any signs of heatstroke. It's an emergency!
