Mel's hedgehog rescue

Mel's hedgehog rescue I've been rescuing and rehabilitating hedgehogs for a while now. I'm in Chelmsford Essex and I'm a small self funded rescue.

Feel free to contact me for advice/information. I work with support of other rescues so the hogs get the best care possible.

Little Moana πŸ¦” doesn't seem herself at the moment. Her poo πŸ’© was clear today so I will keep looking πŸ‘€ She's been more lethargic than usual and her eyes seem more sunken than usual, indicating dehydration. She has been receiving subcutaneous fluids πŸ’‰πŸ’§ for the last two days and has perked up a bit this afternoon. Such a worry when they are small.

I have been very busy over the last few days taking care of the hedgehogs πŸ¦”. Although I am full, someone forgot to tell my garden 🏑 visitors. I found a πŸ¦” in my feeding station yesterday. Obviously I couldn't turn him away 🀷. He was in a bad way. I could smell πŸ‘ƒ infection on him, so got to work checking him over. Luckily there was no fly strike. After getting him on a heat pad and administering subcutaneous fluids πŸ’‰πŸ’§, he was given pain relief and antibiotics πŸ’Š. He wouldn't let me see his legs 🦡 to start with so I let him relax and let the painkillers kick in properly. Once I was able to check his legs 🦡 I found that his back right leg🦡 was very swollen and had an infected wound. I cleaned it as best as I could. He also had small wounds to his rear end and head so I think he had been grabbed/bitten by a dog/fox 🦊.
Due to the severity of his injuries I took him to my local wildlife hospital today. They have always been very good at helping me with difficult cases. He will be x-rayed 🩻today and I can get an update tomorrow. There is a chance he may have to be put to sleep but I won't know until tomorrow. Fingers crossed 🀞 for him. Such a brave boy.

Little Moana πŸ¦” is gaining weight βš–οΈ slowly but I'm sure she will get there. Such a sweetheart 😘

Lilly πŸ¦” earned herself an unexpected trip to the vets today. When I went to clean her out I found that she had something wedged into the roof of her mouth πŸ‘„. She was unable to open or close her mouth πŸ‘„properly. I was worried that she was going to choke and knew that I couldn't get it removed by myself and the vet couldn't see her for another few hours. I called on my neighbour to help me remove the foreign object. While she held lilly πŸ¦”, I used the handle of a toothbrush πŸͺ₯ and a pair of tweezers to get it out. It turns out that Lilly πŸ¦” had found a small plum and had got the stone πŸͺ¨ stuck in the roof of her mouth πŸ‘„. The vet checked Lilly πŸ¦” over and suggested that we had probably done a better job of removing it than they would have done. So happy there's no lasting damage. Lilly πŸ¦” just needs some anti inflammatory medication for a couple of days in case she's a bit sore, but all looks ok.
