Dehydration in dogs can develop quickly, especially during hot weather, illness, or after heavy activity. Recognizing the early signs can help prevent more serious health problems.

When a dog’s body lacks enough fluids, several visible symptoms may start to appear. Dogs may look unusually tired, their eyes can appear sunken, and their nose may feel dry. As dehydration progresses, their gums may become sticky or dry and saliva may appear thicker than normal.

Other signs of dehydration can include:
• Dark or concentrated urine
• Dry or tight skin
• Weakness or unsteady walking
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Loss of appetite or low energy

Because water supports nearly every function in a dog’s body, dehydration can affect circulation, digestion, and temperature regulation.

To help protect your dog from dehydration:
• Always provide access to fresh, clean water
• Offer water more frequently during hot days or after exercise
• Watch for sudden changes in energy, appetite, or urine color
• Seek veterinary advice if symptoms persist

Keeping your dog properly hydrated is one of the simplest ways to support their comfort, balance, and overall health. 🐾

✨Returning Guests = The Biggest Compliment ✨

There is honestly nothing that makes us smile more than welcoming guests back to the cabin 💛

We’ve just received this lovely review from a returning stay:

“This is the 2nd time we have stayed at the cabin and it was just as good as we remembered. So peaceful and had everything we needed. The dog loved running around the lake and lots of walks to the local pubs. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a relaxed and friendly stay!”

Peaceful mornings. Lake-side zoomies. Pub walks on your doorstep. 🐾🌿

And yes — dogs aren’t just allowed here… they’re part of the family. We know that holidays aren’t the same without them, which is why we love seeing muddy paws, wagging tails and happy, tired pups after a day exploring North Devon.

If you’re looking for somewhere relaxed, friendly and surrounded by countryside (with space for the whole family — four-legged members included 🐶), we’d love to welcome you.

We know it can be tempting to share your festive favourites with your pets, but here is some food for thought before you do 👀

If you can't resist sneaking the dog a few scraps from your Christmas dinner, make sure you know what's safe for them to enjoy and what is best avoided.

And remember, what seems like a tiny portion to us can be a lot for your pet.

Your pets and fireworks 🎆🎆

Below are a few tips to help your pet through the fast approaching firework season!

Keep cats and dogs inside when fireworks are being let off.
Walk dogs earlier in the day before dark to reduce the risk of fireworks being let off when out.
Create a safe space for you pet. This could be a den for your dog, blanket over their crate or any safe space they usually like to sleep.
Close all windows and doors to reduce noise and close curtains. Putting on a radio or the T.V can help to also drown out the sound - Just not too loud!
Give your pet some space to find where they feel comfortable. They will come to you if they want comfort.
Avoid leaving your pet at home if they are noise phobic. IF you do need to leave the house, avoid getting angry with your pet if they have soiled and/or been destructive.
Consult your vet in advance if your cat/dog has a previous history of noise phobia. There are different things we can try to help ease their anxiety! 🐈🐶

Not forgetting our small furries.....

Outdoor accommodation should be brought inside if possible.

Provide extra bedding for burrowing so your pet can feel safe.

If it is not possible to bring your pet inside cover with a thick blanket/duvet. Please ensure that there is still adequate ventilation.

If your pet is bonded to another - keep together to provide comfort 🐹🐰

You’ve probably seen it — your dog hiding a bone, toy, or treat in the backyard or under a blanket.
It might seem funny or strange, but this behavior runs deep into canine history.

Long before dogs lived in cozy homes, their wild ancestors buried extra food to save it from scavengers and keep it fresh for lean times.
Even though your pup has a full bowl every day, that instinct to “store for later” is still there.

Sometimes it’s not survival at all — just comfort, boredom, or possessiveness.
Hiding a toy can feel like “saving a treasure,” and digging it up later brings joy all over again.

So if your dog buries a bone or hides their favorite plush — don’t worry.
It’s not weird. It’s ancient. 🐶✨
