🐾 Puppy Socialisation Sessions – They're a game changer🐾

The early weeks of your puppy’s life are so important for building confidence and preventing future fears. Our puppy socialisation sessions are designed to:

✅ Help your pup feel happy and relaxed around new people, sounds, and experiences
✅ Encourage positive interactions with other puppies in a safe environment
✅ Make future vet visits less stressful (for you and them!)

💡 Perfect for not-yet-fully-vaccinated puppies, our sessions are held in a clean, secure space so your pup can mix safely before they’ve finished their vaccinations.

🌟 Benefits of joining:
🐶 Better behaviour and confidence as they grow
🐾 Expert guidance from our experienced veterinary nurses
💛 Fun, relaxed, and puppy-paced sessions

📅 Book your puppy in as spaces are limited! Call us on 01625 533 654 or pop in to our Handforth reception to find out more.

Because happy puppies grow into happy dogs. 🐕✨

Bronson, a 2-year-old male Dachshund, was brought to the ophthalmology department after his owner noticed a worm inside one of his eyes. A few days prior, the eye had appeared red and bloodshot.

Upon examination, a live, active parasitic nematode was found in the anterior chamber (the front part) of Bronson’s right eye. The worm was visibly moving and had caused inflammation within the eye.⚠️

Under general anaesthesia, the worm was successfully aspirated (suctioned out), and Bronson recovered well from the procedure . He was quite excitable during his hospital stay, and was discharged to rest at home . A follow-up examination the next day showed that the eye was healing well and the inflammation was subsiding. 👁️

Bronson will require two weeks of rest to support recovery, and he is wearing a cone-shaped collar to prevent him from rubbing or injuring the eye. 💙

This case highlights the importance of regular worming treatments in dogs. Parasitic worms are often hidden in deeper tissues and may not show obvious signs until complications arise.

🐾 Super RVN Amber has recently completed the Dogs Trust course to become a Dog Friendly Advocate! 🎉

She’s been putting her new skills to great use in our socialisation nurse appointments, helping patients who find social situations, people, or other animals a bit overwhelming.

One of our favourite success stories is Mac. 🐶
Over the past few months, Mac has been visiting Amber to gently get him used to health checks and vaccines after some previous negative experiences at the vets.
Thanks to these sessions, Mac recently came in for his annual vaccination with no fuss at all! We were able to give him a full check-up and his vaccines completely stress-free and with his full cooperation. ❤️

If you think your dog could benefit from socialisation appointments, give us a call to chat with our team or book in with one of our nurses ☎️

Seasonal Canine Illness (SCI) has no known cause, but this is what we know so far:

Seasonal means it is most prevalent between August and November. Dogs fall ill roughly 1 to 3 days after a woodland walk.
Symptoms may include vomiting, lethargy, abdominal pain, not eating and muscle tremors. SCI can be fatal and although the cause is currently unknown, we focus on treating the symptoms and most cases recover.

If you suspect SCI or have any concerns, please ring us straight away!

🐾 Looking for Forever Homes 🐾

We don’t usually rehome cats and normally rely on the awesome local rescue centres. However, some of you will remember the two lovely mums we recently helped find families for 💕 — we’re thrilled to say they’re now living their best lives!

Sadly, there’s been a real influx of cats and mums with kittens recently, and with rescue centres overflowing, we’re doing what we can to step in and help in the rehoming side.

Which brings us to these two beautiful girls. Both have raised their litters, have now been spayed, and are ready to leave the stresses of motherhood behind. What they need now is a calm, loving home where they can truly relax and be cherished. 🏡✨

They each have wonderful, gentle temperaments and would make the most affectionate companions.

If you could offer a safe and loving home to one of these sweet girls, please get in touch ([email protected]). Let’s give them the fresh start they deserve. 💖
