Both boys are 12 year old Collies and came into our Summerfields practice for their monthly injection to manage their osteoarthritis.

Oreo the Guinea pig belongs to one of our student veterinary nurses Eleanor.
Oreo was admitted for a mass removal. The mass is known as a trichofolliculoma and is the most common type of benign skin masses in a Guinea pig. However this lump had grown rapidly over the space of a few days and was becoming very painful for Oreo. 💜

Oreo had a short course of antibiotics and pain relief and then surgery was performed by vet James, and his anaesthetic monitored by RVN Tina.
Oreo was placed in a heated kennel prior to his surgery as Guinea pigs can lose body heat quickly under anaesthetic and this helps them to remain warm, resulting in a quicker recovery. 😴

James removed the lump in its entirety and Oreo did really well under anaesthetic. Although these lumps are usually benign, it was sent to the lab anyway just to make sure. Thankfully the lump was benign as hoped.

Monitoring equipment is used in all our patients, and small furries are no different. The equipment was used throughout to measure his heart rate, blood pressure and temperature allowing for small changes to be acted upon immediately. Oreo recovered nicely and went home the same day on antibiotics and pain relief and his stitches had dissolved 2 weeks later. Oreo continued to recover well with no post op complications, and was back with his friends eating his greens in no time at all. 🥬

🥳 We're 50 Today! 🥳

Today marks 50 years since Woodcroft Vets first opened it's doors, and we'd like to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey. 💜

Over the last five decades, we've had the privilege of caring for generations of local pets and getting to know the families who love them. We've also been fortunate to support hundreds of veterinary nurses and graduates as they've developed their careers, and to help countless stray and rescued animals along the way.

Like many businesses, we've seen our share of challenges over the years. One of the things we're most proud of is having remained open throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, continuing to provide care for pets whenever it was needed.

We're incredibly grateful to our clients, patients, colleagues, and friends, past and present, for the trust and support you've shown us over the last 50 years.

Thank you for allowing us to be a small part of your pets' lives. Here's to many more years of serving our community and the animals that make it so special. 🐾💙

Have you met our physiotherapy team?

💜 Meet Sam & Amber:

🐶 Sam graduated from Harper Adams University in 2024, with a BSc (Hons) in Veterinary Physiotherapy. He enjoys treating animals of all shapes and sizes, with no animal being too much of a challenge.
Joining the physiotherapy team in January 2026, Sam has brought fresh energy and expertise to the department. Sam particularly finds joy in helping ageing animals find a new lease of life again, making sure they are as comfortable as possible and able to live life to the fullest.

🐱 Amber is one of our Registered Veterinary Nurses. She graduated from Harper Adams University in 2023 and has been working with Woodcroft since. In 2025 she qualified as a veterinary hydrotherapist and now works with Sam two days a week, supporting animals in the water treadmill.
Alongside her interest in animal rehabilitation, she also has a keen interest in animal behaviour. This compliments her rehabilitation work by helping her understand each of her patients and tailor their care to keep them comfortable and confident.
