And the answer was FICTION!

Of course you got it right! Mandarins eat a variety of small invertebrates, live and frozen as well as chowing down on pellet foods and R.O.E. Did you know they also make great additions to deal with pest outbreaks such as planaria?

We’ll see you again next week for another round of fact or fiction!

We're starting to add more and more of our corals to the website, although there's still plenty of stock that hasn't made it online yet.

One thing we keep seeing is claims of having the "cheapest corals in the UK".

We're not particularly interested in slogans. We'd rather focus on the corals.

At The Happy Reef, corals aren't rushed straight from import to sale. They're given time to settle, recover, feed and establish. Many grow, colour up and show better extension after a period of stability and care.

The interesting part is that when you actually compare prices, many of those "cheapest coral" claims simply don't stand up.

So rather than chasing quick turnover, we'll continue focusing on healthy, established corals, sensible pricing and helping reef keepers succeed long term.

Like our corals, The Happy Reef is here for the long term.

FACT OR FICTION? 🤔

Mandarin Dragonets only eat live copepods.

👍 FACT

❤️ FICTION

These stunning fish have a reputation for being one of the hardest species to keep in reef aquariums, largely because of their feeding requirements.

But is it really true that they only eat live pods?

Cast your vote below and we'll reveal the answer tomorrow.

Bonus points if you already keep a Mandarin and can share your experience! 🐟

Have you tried R.O.E yet? If not, your fish and corals might be wondering what they're missing! 🪸🐠

R.O.E (Real Oceanic Eggs) from Reef Nutrition is one of those foods that gets an immediate reaction in reef tanks.

Fish love it. Corals love it. And if you've ever watched a fleshy LPS coral grab hold of a cloud of R.O.E, you'll understand why it's become so popular.

Why do we use it? We’ve used frozen fish eggs for a long time, especially for our picky eaters but R.O.E makes it even easier. It’s:

Rich in protein and omega-3 fatty acids
Excellent for many LPS corals
Great for wrasses, anthias, mandarins, butterflyfish and other picky feeders
Small particle size makes it suitable for a wide range of livestock
Triggers strong feeding responses from both fish and corals

One of our favourite things about R.O.E is that you can actually see the response. Torches extend, acans inflate, lobos grab hold, and fish quickly learn when the bottle comes out.

If you're looking to add a high-quality, no fuss, food to your feeding routine, R.O.E is definitely worth a try. And bonus, you don’t have to defrost it as it’s ready to use!

Tube anemones enjoying some of our enriched brine shrimp this morning. Did you know Tube anemones are considered reef safe with a diet of plankton and small invertebrates such as mysis and brine?
In our opinion they are a great way to add colour and interest to your tank!
