Fellow dog owners and walkers, please be aware of farm animals on walks.
Some dogs enjoy “chasing” other animals especially if they start to run…it might be just “fun” for the dog but can be incredibly stressful for the farm animals.
Let’s keep all animals safe 💕
BOVINE ATTACK . . .
Today I have been preserving & securing various evidence in relation to another Livestock incident in the southwest of the County. This time Cows, of which the majority are in calf, have been chased & worried. A dog has panicked them into falling, bursting fences & gates thereby causing injury. Even the uninjured Cows are stressed & the milk yield has plunged.
Livestock worrying encompasses attack but includes more: Dogs do not necessarily need to physically bite & attack Livestock to cause significant injury & harm or even shock & death. Some dogs may on occasion think they are having fun but Livestock never want to play !!
The farmer summoned assistance to have the dog lawfully shot but on this occasion the dog was secured prior to that necessity.
With the prevailing weather finally improving & the mercury rising, our rural footfall is soaring: please remember to stick to the footpaths & keep your Dogs under close control: ideally leashed & muzzled in the Countryside.
