With our new Micron kit we can now run accurate worm and fluke tests in the practice giving faster results. First ten samples handed in from clients will be done free to give us some practice using it! Modelled by the newly engaged Thomas (congratulations!).

This unlucky cow managed to swallow most of a bolusing gun after the handle snapped off! Fortunately Thomas was able to successfully remove it before it caused any problems.

This calf was born with a large cyst on it's head! This could have potentially burst and become infected at a later date so it was surgically removed.

**Lungworm aware**

Active lungworm infection found on postmortem in a group of 3 month old dairy bred calves grazing since May. Clinical signs of increased respiratory effort, heaving, coughing, low head carriage and extended neck.

On post mortem of one calf several 3-4cm thin white worms were found in the trachea and bronchi amounst foamy froth which is the body's response to the worm. Emphysema of the back part of the lungs can be seen (pale areas) which means the calf would have been struggling to breathe.

The rest of the group were treated with levamisole drench which paralyses the worms and a steroid to reduce the effect of anaphylaxis and help open the airways. We would expect a full recovery in most cases with follow up treatments advised.
