As part of , we asked our team what inspired them to volunteer on the estate 🥰

Without their dedication and hard work, progress on the park would grind to a halt and this wonderful space would be lost again. We are so grateful for every lawn they mow, every raffle ticket they sell and all of the other jobs that are essential to help bring Gelli Aur back to its former glory!

📣 A statement from our Trustees 📣

We wish to clarify that the land offered for sale with West Lodge is strictly limited to the narrow strip immediately adjacent to the lodge, located just inside the main gates.

The public will continue to have access to the beautiful parkland walks, the quarry, the former deer park, the magnificent Arboretum and the mansion house grounds—all of which are lovingly maintained by our dedicated volunteers.

We are deeply committed to preserving the historic and environmental significance of Gelli Aur for future generations, however the Trust is currently managing significant legacy debt. This financial burden has unfortunately restricted our ability to secure crucial grant funding. Selling West Lodge and its immediate grounds will allow us to begin clearing this debt, ultimately safeguarding the long-term future of the core of Gelli Aur Estate for everyone to enjoy.

Come and join us for our next Farmers’ Market. There will be tasty cakes and bakes, flowers, herbs and plants, savoury treats and more - all from our lovely local suppliers 🍰 Our volunteer stall will also be stocked and ready to go.

Caffi Ceirw will be open with their glorious menu and the Arboretum, North Terrace and Old Deer Park will be open to explore.

Important Announcement: Gelli Aur Mansion & Stableblock

When one of our trustees and lots of our volunteers arrived on site on Thursday, they discovered heartbreaking news. Intruders had broken into the stableblock and mansion, breaking two windows. The police responded quickly and have launched a full scene-of-crime investigation.

While it has not as yet been identified who was responsible for the forced entry, in the past, Gelli Aur has caught the attention of urban explorers and a number of factors point to this being a possibility again.

While we understand the fascination, the mansion house is definitely NOT abandoned. It is a magical place, which we care about deeply.

Every break-in drains our resources:
• Wasted time: Volunteers must fix damage instead of maintaining and developing the estate.
• Lost funds: Repair costs use vital charity funds.
• Emotional drain: Break-ins dishearten our amazing and dedicated volunteer team, who work so hard.

Gelli Aur is a proud piece of Carmarthenshire's history. Decades of neglect, theft and vandalism have left it in a fragile state. The road to full restoration is long, complex and extremely expensive.

We are fighting against time and decay and have undertaken targeted work to try to prevent further deterioration:

• Scaffolding: Structural scaffolding now protects the central atrium from collapse.
• Weatherproofing: Vital temporary works have been, and continue to be, done to try to stop further water damage.

We dream of reopening the mansion doors to the public, but that is a long way off.

As the first step towards our long term dreams, we would love to be able to open the beautiful stableblock courtyard. Our volunteers have already undertaken an amazing amount of clearance work - watch this space for progress updates.

We will also share some interior photos soon, so you can have glimpses of the inside.

What can you do to help? You can help keep our dreams alive by visiting the parkland and cafe, coming along to our events, joining our volunteer team or making a donation.

If you are an urban explorer, spread the word that breaking in is not acceptable, support Gelli Aur instead by positively contributing to our dreams.

Every gesture, big or small, helps us safeguard Gelli Aur for future generations.
