Temperatures are set to rise above 30°C in Carlisle tomorrow! As glorious as this sunny weather is, it's really important to keep your dogs safe, cool and comfortable 🐾☀️
Here are 5 simple tips to help keep them safe and well in the heat:
1. Skip daytime walks
Walk very early or much later in the evening when it’s cooler. In this heat, missing a walk is much safer than risking heatstroke!
2. Always keep fresh, cool water available
Make sure your dog has access to plenty of clean, fresh water throughout the day.
3. Keep them cool indoors
Close curtains or blinds, use fans where safe to do so, and give your dog a cool, shaded spot to rest. Cooling mats or a damp towel can also help them stay comfortable.
4. Keep things calm
Avoid running, chasing balls or high-energy play. Encourage quiet activities instead, especially during the hottest part of the day.
5. Know the signs of heatstroke
Heavy panting, drooling, wobbliness, vomiting, confusion or collapse can all be warning signs. If you’re worried, start cooling your dog and contact a vet straight away.
Let’s keep our dogs safe while the sunshine is here 💚🐶
