🐶✨ Happy National Dog Day! ✨🐶

Meet Rusty, our resident host here at Home on the Farm! 🏡💚

Rusty is a 3-year-old Chihuahua with a big personality in a small package. I chose the Chihuahua breed because they’re loyal, full of character, and the perfect fit with our little family.

Rusty’s absolute favourite thing in the world is playing ball 🎾 (closely followed by cuddles on the sofa 🥰). He’s not so keen on vegetables – you won’t catch him near a piece of broccoli anytime soon! Though he’ll happily gnaw on a carrot… leaving me a nice shredded mess to clear up afterwards! 🥕😂

Rusty helps make Home on the Farm feel like exactly that – a home. He’s the welcoming committee, always ready with a wagging tail to welcome the dogs, making sure they feel at home too. 💛

Today we’re celebrating all the dogs who make our lives brighter – whether they’re cheeky, cuddly, or full of mischief.

Give your pup an extra hug from me (and Rusty) today! 💛🐾

That moment when…

…you get up to make a cuppa and come back to find your seat has been permanently reassigned.

Dogs have an unspoken rule — the moment you stand up, your seat is fair game.

If you know, you know 🐾

The Moment Everything Changed for Me

This was my turning point.

When I first opened the doors at Home on the Farm, I imagined every dog would love the home-from-home life — curling up on the sofa, mooching around the garden, joining in with our little farm routines.

Then one day, a lovely dog came for a trial. She was friendly, happy, and much loved — but it became clear very quickly that she just didn’t feel comfortable here. The new smells, the different routine, the other dogs… it wasn’t her cup of tea.

At first, I felt like I’d failed her. But then I realised something important: just like people, dogs have their own preferences. Some thrive in a family-style setting, others prefer a busier, more structured environment, and that’s ok.

That experience stayed with me. It’s why I take time to make sure I truly believe every dog will enjoy their time here. I take the time to notice the little signs in a dog’s body language that show me whether they’re truly relaxed. I’ve made a promise to myself that if I ever see a dog who might not be completely comfortable, I will advocate for them and speak with their owners so we can work out what’s best. For me, it’s about making sure each dog feels safe, happy, and part of our little family with me and Rusty.

The dogs who do come regularly for daycare and boarding settle in like part of the family, and that’s what makes this place special for them… and for me.

Every dog has their own idea of comfort — what makes yours feel at home?

When this happens, I know we’re on the right track 🐾❤️

For me, it’s when owners tell me that as soon as they turn into my road, the excited barking and happy yaps begin – because their dog knows exactly where they’re going.

It’s when they bound out the car, tail wagging, eyes bright, and barely glance back because they know they’re in their happy place.

It’s when they curl up for a nap in their favourite spot like they’ve always lived here.

It’s when owners can happily head off to work or away for a break, because they know their dog is truly at home.

That’s how I measure success – by the trust, the joy, and the ease we’ve built together.

Why I Keep My Numbers Small 🐾

It’s not just a business here — it’s family 🥰

Every dog who comes here becomes part of our little gang — me, Rusty, and the friends they see each time they visit.

That’s why I only ever have up to six dogs a day. It means everyone gets to know each other properly, just like you would in a real family.

The familiar faces help the dogs feel safe and settled. They learn who likes to play chase in the field, who enjoys a quiet sniff around the garden, and who prefers a cosy cuddle on the sofa.

Here at Home on the Farm, we spend our days together — sharing walks, meals, naps, chats and the odd muddy adventure. It’s a home, not just a place to be dropped off, and the bonds we build make all the difference ❤️

Some dogs love and thrive in a big crowd, others prefer a smaller circle — what about yours?
