This is going to be a bit of a rant, over the last few months I have had the pleasure of meeting a few horses and riders that needed a bit of help. These have been on yards with people who class themselves as horse men and woman. Unfortunately from what I see is that their first response to a difficult horse is to strap it down and chase it around the arena for weeks on end and then because that doesn’t work tell everyone it is a danger and should not be ridden.
Horses should be given understanding and yes like us they can have issues and don’t see the world the way we do.
Let’s try to help these horses that have been either missold or just need time, I am old school and I believe in a happy horse happy rider, remember it’s a partnership not just a horse.
Same goes for instructors lets teach the young ones that horses need respect, it’s not just get on and kick and blame the horse because he wouldn’t jump today, ask yourself why, and don’t just throw a tantrum.
The young riders of today are our top riders of the future.
Some riding schools need to maybe go back to basics and teach people to actually ride and not just take money for a hour of pony rides.
I spent a lot of time and money doing my training not just the exams but the years of working with different types of horses and riders and listening to my instructors and taking advice and learning from them..
The stories I have heard over a number of months of some peoples training methods have left me a dismayed with the equestrian world. Let’s get back the respect it deserves and the respect horses need .
