Be careful who you trust with your dogs swimming, just because they have a pool and it is hot does not mean they should be sticking your dog in the water.

Not All Dog Swimming Sessions Are Equal

As dog owners, we often see a dog swimming and assume it's automatically beneficial. Unfortunately, that's not always the case.

Swimming can be a fantastic form of exercise and rehabilitation, but only when it is carried out with the dog's individual needs, age, physical condition and breed considerations in mind.

A senior dog with arthritis or joint disease has very different requirements to a young, fit dog. Sudden exercise in cold water, inadequate warm-up periods, poor handling techniques or inappropriate equipment can potentially place additional strain on already compromised joints and muscles.

Likewise, some breeds, such as Dachshunds and other long-backed dogs, require careful support and handling due to their increased risk of spinal problems. A poorly fitted harness or incorrect lifting technique can create unnecessary stress on vulnerable areas of the body.

Before allowing your dog to swim, ask questions:

✔ Is the water temperature appropriate?
✔ Are staff trained in canine anatomy and movement?
✔ Do they understand common breed-specific health concerns?
✔ Is the dog given time to acclimatise and warm up?
✔ Is the equipment correctly fitted?
✔ Are sessions tailored to the individual dog?

Swimming can be incredibly beneficial, but it isn't simply a case of putting a dog in water and hoping for the best.

Your dog deserves care from people who understand not just swimming, but canine welfare, biomechanics and safety.

Because when it comes to our dogs, "they can swim" isn't the same as "they should swim this way."

The summer has finally arrived and appointments at the pool become even more scarce so give them a call on 0126 514 996 and get your dogs booked in.
It doesn't have to be dogs with health issues, a fitness swim is so much fun and you don't run the risk of your dogs overheating.
Swimming with hydrotherpay trained staff means your dog is in safe hands.

Hot weather doesn’t just affect brachy breeds and older dogs

For dogs with arthritis and joint problems, warmer weather can increase inflammation, swelling, fatigue and discomfort. Many dogs become less active in the heat, which can then lead to even stiffer joints and reduced mobility.

Hydrotherapy can be a fantastic way to keep these dogs moving safely during warmer months.

The buoyancy of the water reduces pressure on painful joints while allowing dogs to build muscle strength, improve mobility and exercise without the impact of hard ground or overheating during walks.

Sometimes the best summer exercise happens in the pool, not on the pavement

Puppy pads are not the way to house train puppies.

Puppy pads are not the way to house train puppies.

🚨 Puppy House Training Myth Alert 🚨
“You need puppy pads.”
Actually… you don’t 👀

Why we don’t recommend puppy pads:
Puppy pads teach puppies that toileting inside is sometimes OK.
Later, when we ask them to go outside only, that rule suddenly changes — and puppies get confused.

What works better:
✔️ Take your puppy outside often
✔️ Supervise indoors
✔️ Praise calmly for outdoor toileting
✔️ Expect accidents (they’re part of learning!)

Think clarity, not convenience.
Outside = toilet. Simple. Consistent. Faster learning.

At K9 Solutions, we focus on setting puppies up to succeed — not fixing mixed messages later.

Why Puppy Training Is One of the Best Gifts You Can Give Your Dog 🐶

Bringing a puppy home is exciting, joyful… and sometimes a little chaotic!
That’s where puppy training comes in — and it’s about so much more than just teaching a sit.

Taking your puppy to classes
✔️ Builds confidence in both you and your puppy
✔️ Helps prevent common issues like jumping up, biting and pulling on the lead
✔️ Teaches your puppy how to focus around distractions
✔️ Supports safe, positive social experiences
✔️ Strengthens your bond from the very beginning

Think of puppy training like laying strong foundations for a house.
Get those foundations right, and everything built on top is stronger, calmer, and more enjoyable.

At K9 Solutions, our puppy classes are fun, supportive, and designed to help you understand why your puppy behaves the way they do — not just what to do about it. No judgement. No pressure. Just real-life skills for real-life puppies.
