‼️🐾 GRASS SEED WARNING 🐾‼️
As the summer weather is in full swing, it’s peak season for those pesky grass seeds.
( Grass Darts).
They might look small and harmless, but these arrow-shaped seeds are incredibly sharp and can cause absolute havoc for our furry friends! 🐶🐱
Their barbed tips can easily latch onto coats and burrow into the skin, causing severe discomfort, abscesses, and nasty infections. They most commonly get lodged in paws, ears, eyes, and noses.
👀 What to look out for:
🐾 Excessive licking or chewing at the paws (sudden limping is a big red flag!)
🐾 Frequent head shaking, scratching at the ears, or holding their head to one side
🐾 Sneezing repeatedly or pawing at their face/eyes
🐾 Redness, swelling, or small sores on the skin🐾How to protect your furry best friend:
✔️ Check them over: Always brush your pet and check their coat, armpits, and between their paws and pads after every walk.
✔️ Trim the fur : Keep their fur around their paws, pads and ears trimmed short so seeds have nowhere to hide.
✔️ Be cautious in long grass: Stick to mown paths and avoid overgrown, dry meadows where these seeds love to drop.
If you spot a seed on your pets coat, you can gently brush it away, but if it looks as if the grass dart is embedded or your pet is showing signs of pain, please contact one of the team @ Riverside Vets Canvey on 01268 682412 🐾
