Farm Worker and Assistant Stockman - Kent

We are looking for a pro-active, trust-worthy and hard-working individual with a real passion for livestock. We are a mixed family farm outside Canterbury, Kent with pedigree Sussex cattle, Romney x ewes, arable, potatoes, top fruit and pumpkins. The position would be a varied role supporting the various farm enterprises, with routine livestock work including some weekends.

Job Description

-Assisting with the general feeding, husbandry and care of the herd and flock.
-General tractor driving including trailer work, cultivations, forage and potato harvests.
-Management and upkeep of grassland including topping, harrowing, and seeding.
-Use of telescopic handler and ATV.
-General farm and machinery maintenance
-Additional working hours during busy periods and routine weekend livestock work

Job Details

Wanted Livestock Assistant and General Farm Worker

Temporary role with potential for permanent position for the right candidate

We are looking for someone with a passion for cattle and sheep to help during calving and lambing in Spring 2026. This a temporary role available from mid February through to May. We are a mixed family farm outside of Canterbury Kent, with a suckler herd of 180 pedigree cattle and flock of 280 ewes. The successful candidate will work alongside our head stockman and will have experience of working with livestock and farm machinery. The job role will include assisting with all aspects of outdoor calving and lambing alongside the other day to day husbandry tasks.

For the right candidate, the role can be permanent and would be a diverse role spanning our livestock, arable and potato enterprises. The role would be the assistant stockperson, covering the stockman when they are off and would involve routine weekend work. We calve outside twice a year, keep animals through to finishing, alongside selling pedigree breeding stock. We pride ourselves on high standards of animal welfare and management and would expect the successful candidate to do the same.

Other work throughout the year would include tractor work such as; field work, grassland management, silage making, corn cart, bale cart, potato harvesting and grading alongside general farm maintenance and fencing. Experience with telescopic handlers is advantageous but training can be provided if needed.

It is essential that you can work alone (or as part of a team) and are reliable, flexible, trustworthy and self-motivated. Long hours will be required at times and pay will be competitive and reflective of experience.

You must have a full valid UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK. Help to find accommodation can be provided.

Stockman Wanted

After 10 years, our stockman Martin is leaving as he and his wife are moving for an exciting change many miles away. We would like to thank Martin for all his hard work he has put into the Herd during this time.

This means we are looking for a full time experienced stockperson for our herd of Sussex cows. The candidate must have a proven track record in managing a beef herd/cattle and endeavour to maintain high standards of welfare, performance and efficiency.

The applicant must hold a full valid UK driving licence and have good knowledge and competency in all aspects of beef farming including health treatments, tractor and machinery use, feed rations, breeding traits and grassland management.
