Trailing thrives on variety — and we’ve certainly had plenty of that over the past few months!

We’ve worked trails in rain, wind, frost and sunshine (sometimes all in one session 🤣), through woodland, open fields, coastal paths, quiet housing estates and busy towns. No two trails are ever the same.

Weather, temperature, foot traffic and vehicle movement all influence how scent travels and how long it lingers. Every session gives dogs new scent pictures and new challenges to work through.

Each trail becomes a real-life puzzle for your dog to solve - it’s what makes trailing such fun for dog and handler! 🐶🧠

REUNITED 😁

‼️missing from Chequers Hill, near Petham‼️

Glenn went missing on a walk at around 10.15am yesterday (Tuesday 3rd March). He’s a 10 year old spaniel, and was wearing a light green harness with handle. If you’re in the area, please keep your eye out for him!

Glenn is one of our Nose & 4 Paws agility crew and we’re desperate to see him back home ASAP.

Yesterday, the Scent Club crew worked their socks off!
Over the past few sessions, we’ve been gradually building skills in high, overhead and suspended hides. The complexity increased in the searches yesterday and the dogs rose to the occasion!

We also had a go at one of the United Canine Scent Sport Kong competition aspects, and saw some fabulous handling and great teamwork, with handlers both allowing the dogs to work independently and stepping in to support as needed.

And some of the teams revisited the Catnip Retrieve element - so much fun for dogs and handlers alike, and I can’t wait to do more of this over the summer!

Our scent club sessions are open to dogs of all levels of experience, and the searches are adapted to the level that the dogs are working at to ensure that we progressively build skills and set challenges appropriately.

United Canine Scent Sport CPD for 2025: Confirmed ✅

Instructor courses, webinars, focus days, and practical learning - it wasn’t just about adding to my scent sport knowledge, but about refining my toolbox. There’s never just one way of doing things!

✔ Joining other instructors for training with my own dogs

Loving the UCS mantra - “Never stop learning!”

📣The Agility Club 2025 League 📣

Absolutely chuffed that Nose & 4 Paws finished in the top 10 in The Agility Club 2025 League Division 4 and…
🥁… we’ve been promoted to Division 3! 🌟

Our first year as a club in The Agility Club Leagues, with only 5 teams contributing points and 3 of those teams in their first season competing 🤩 The Agility Club Leagues really reward consistency in competition across the year, with every win, placing and clear round contributing points - Lizzie and Jasper, Flora and Bert, Lizzie and Barney, and Dave and Darcy, this really is a testament to your successes over last season 👏 (Rye and I added a few points too 😃)

Some fantastic individual achievements to celebrate as well - a number of teams finished in the top 8 in their categories and will receive an invite to the Finals that will be held at The Agility Club show in July!

🌟 Lizzie and Jasper - Small grade 1
🐾 Sarah and Boo - Medium grade 2
🤩 Den and Toby - Intermediate grade 3
🐶 Laurissa and Obi - Large grade 4
💫 Sarah and Purdy- Small grade 7
✨ Susan and Kitty-May - Senior Handler

Huge congratulations to you all! 🍾

After a brilliant day training with the United Canine Scent Sport team on Friday, I’m delighted to say I’m now a Judge for the Kong Competition Division 1 😀

I absolutely love the UCS competition format — it’s dog-centred, the progressive searches are well structured and great fun, and the judging and scoring are supportive and prioritise dog and handler development, with full feedback and coaching offered at every level.

Watch out for UCS Kong Competitions coming to Kent later this year! 👀🐾

UK Scent Sport has a new name… United Canine Scent Sport!
You’ll start to see the new name and branding on certificates, ribbons, rosettes etc. Exciting times ahead as United Canine Scent Sport continues to grow!

✨ Big news. Same nose. Bigger future. ✨

UK Scent Sport is becoming United Canine Scent Sport, or UCS for short 🐾
Why the change?
Simply put, we have grown faster and further than we ever imagined. What started as a UK based project has turned into something much bigger, with instructors, handlers, and dogs joining us from all over. The word United now fits what we actually are.

What is changing?
• The name
• The branding
• The direction we are expanding into

What is NOT changing?
• The ethos
• The standards
• The courses, leagues, assessments, or qualifications
• The community
• The fun

This is not a reset. It is a level up.

You will start to see the new name and branding roll out gradually, so do not panic if things look a little mixed for a while. Behind the scenes, it is still the same team, the same structure, and the same obsession with doing scent sport properly, ethically, and with dogs at the centre of everything.

This move challenges us, excites us, and opens doors we did not expect to open quite so soon. And honestly, that is a really good problem to have.

Thank you for being part of the journey so far.
Now let’s see where we can take this together 🌍🐶

Agility Skills Session – Building Confidence, Commitment & Independence

Today’s course was designed to offer a variety of handling choices on each sequence, with layering challenges and lines that really rewarded early commitment from the dog.

It was great to see handlers willing to experiment and expand their handling toolkit — trying different options for the same sequence and analysing which lines were fastest, and which best suited their dog and individual handling style. From decisions about whether to blind and push for the backside or handle from a distance with a threadle wrap, to how best to run the opening sequence (threadle slice, German turn or whisky cross… or playing it safe with a wing wrap — yes, agility definitely has a language of its own 🤣!) the focus was on exploring the best options for each partnership rather than one “right” answer.

The dogs rose to the challenge too, showing growing independence, confidence in sending ahead, and great commitment even in the face of a tempting off-course tunnel. Super skills on show all round!
