🐾 NAILS 🐾
Nails are trimmed during every groom or bath… IF YOUR DOG ALLOWS THIS.
Some dogs are happy to have their nails trimmed, and some are not. If a dog is too wriggly, jumpy, or aggressive, I cannot safely trim the nails.
If the nail clippers are on the nail and the dog keeps pulling their paw away, I cannot see clearly enough to trim safely and risk cutting the “quick” of the nail. This can cause pain and bleeding.
⚠️ If your dog only has their nails trimmed during grooming appointments, this is often not enough to keep them at a comfortable length. Nail maintenance needs to be kept up at home too.
As the nail grows, the quick grows with it, meaning only a very small amount of nail can be trimmed at a time.
🐶 If the nails are touching the ground when your dog is standing, they are too long.
Long nails can become uncomfortable for your dog and may lead to joint issues over time.
✨ If you are unsure about clipping nails at home, a Dremel/file is a great option for keeping nails shorter between grooms.
💡 If your dog dislikes nail trims, start slowly — even one nail a day helps. Gradual introduction and patience usually make dogs much happier with the process over time.
