Meet Tilly, the sweetest lady around 🤎

She's been through a tough time after being attacked by another dog on a walk 😥 Now, Tilly gets nervous around other dogs and needs our help to build her confidence back up.

We're on a mission to teach Tilly that other dogs only mean good things and that she can always rely on her mum to keep her safe. Tilly's already making amazing progress, thanks to her dedicated family 👏

Meet Kuya (meaning "elder brother" in Tagalog), the Miniature Dachshund who has the best example of puppy dog eyes we've ever seen 🥹

Kuya's family reached out to us to help with resource guarding and separation-related behaviours. We focused on teaching Kuya that humans approaching his food bowl meant only good things and that he can choose to swap a resource for something even better! We are also slowly building on his comfort being home alone, which was a bit of a worry for him, and thanks to his family's hard work and understanding, he's doing incredibly well! 💛

MYTH BUSTING - Dog trainers have perfect dogs 👌

If you're new here - hello! This is me, Claire, the face behind Mother Puppers, and my beloved Romanian street dog, Ozzy 🥰

I've been thinking about this subject, this "myth", a lot lately. There is a huge amount of pressure in the dog training industry, and let's face it on social media in general, to have this "perfect dog".

I'm here to tell you that, just like no person is perfect, no dog is perfect either. We are all works in progress, and our flaws are what make us individual and wonderful. So when you're feeling overwhelmed, I want you to remember these 3 things:

🐾 Our human world is tough on dogs. Teach them skills to help them cope as best they can.

🐾 Embrace your dog for who they are as an individual and try not to compare them to others.

🐾 Love and celebrate your dog every day - they are never here for long enough.

🐾 5 KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM DOG BEHAVIOUR CONFERENCE 2025 🐾

After taking some time to digest all the information presented at this year's Dog Behaviour Conference, I've finally gotten around to pulling together my 5 key takeaways, which was NOT easy!! I could have easily made this my "36 key takeaways", but no one has time for that 🤣

All of the speakers at the conference were incredibly knowledgeable and inspiring, and I feel very privileged to have attended. I hope you find these talking points as interesting as I do! Let's geek out together in the comments 🤓 ⬇️

This sweet angel is 😍

Dilys (Dilly for short) is a joyful and sociable girl who has lots of doggy pals. However, Dilly's mum noticed that she had started recently lashing out at her friends during playtime and so got in touch with us.

For any sudden behaviour change, it's important to first get your dog checked over by a vet to rule out any medical reasons. This is exactly what Dilly's mum did and found that Dilly had some pain in her back.

Fast forward to today, and Dilly is aceing her physiotherapy exercises for her back alongside a behaviour modification plan focusing on giving play dates with her friends structure and keeping interactions short and positive. Well done, Dilly!

Let's talk about ✨️choice✨️...baby (sorry)

As much as we love our dogs and do all we can to provide the best lives possible for them, if we're really honest with ourselves, our dogs don't normally have a huge amount of choice or agency day-to-day. As their caregivers, we decide and structure a large amount of their lives, including: what and when they eat, when and where they go for walks, how long and how many times a day they walk, and where they sleep.

Why is this a problem? Shouldn't our dogs be grateful for the shelter, food, and love we provide them with? Yes and no. Through domestication, dogs have learned and adapted very well to fit in with our human lives, and most live very happily. However, it's important to remember that what our dogs would choose to do if living in the wild would likely not resemble their lives with us. There are so-called "village dogs" in countries all around the world that interact with humans and may well sleep in homes at night, but for the most part, hang out and come and go as they please.

I'm not saying we should all release our dogs into the street (please don't!), but what I am saying is that giving our dogs even just small choices in their day-to-day lives can have a massively positive impact on their wellbeing.

Still with me? So how can you actually do this? Here are some of my favourite simple ways to provide more choice and agency in a dog's life:

🐾 Let them choose the direction you walk in (if safe to do so!).

🐾 Give them a choice of treats/chews/bones. Present 2 options and let them pick.

🐾 Provide multiple comfortable resting places throughout the home.

🐾 Have a variety of toys available to your dog at all times - soft, squeaky, hard, textured, tuggy, ball etc.

What choices do you provide your dog? Let us know in the comments ⬇️

The Stress Bucket 🪣

Picture this: you sleep through your alarm, and your car won’t start - you’re now late for work. You grab a coffee, but you drop it down your shirt, so now you’re wet and burned. What a terrible start to your day! You finally make it to work, and your colleague makes a snarky comment about you being late. Normally you’d let it slide, but after the morning you’ve had, it tips you over the edge, and you snap at your colleague.

We’ve all been there! This is trigger stacking, and it happens to our dogs, too.

Imagine a bucket that is filling with water with each stressful thing that happens. At some point, the bucket is going to overflow. We can help empty the bucket with relaxing activities that lower stress levels and keep that bucket from filling up too much.
