This time last year, Tamale began his fight against feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) – specifically the neurological form of the disease.

FIP is a serious condition caused by a mutation of feline coronavirus. For many years it was considered almost always fatal, leaving owners with very few options. Thankfully, advances in veterinary medicine mean that effective treatment is now available, giving many cats the chance to recover and go on to live happy, healthy lives.

Tamale’s owner recently sent us this beautiful message:

“This time last year was the start of our journey with neurological FIP. I just wanted to thank the staff at Lamorna for not only getting Tamale through his illness but also for the kindness shown to me all the times I cried in the waiting room! The first picture is Tamale at his worst when I wasn’t sure he would survive and the others are him now, a perfectly healthy – if small – and happy cat. Thank you! ❤️”

Reading messages like this means the world to our team.

The first photo shows Tamale at his sickest, when his future was uncertain. The following photos show him today; a happy, playful cat who has come through an illness that, not so long ago, would have been considered untreatable.

To anyone who has recently heard the words “your cat has FIP,” we know how overwhelming and frightening that diagnosis can feel. But we also want you to know that there is now genuine reason for hope. Early diagnosis, prompt treatment, and close veterinary care can make a life-changing difference for many cats. 🐱

We’re incredibly proud to be able to offer FIP treatment and to support both our feline patients and their families throughout their journey.

Thank you to Tamale’s owner for trusting us with his care and for allowing us to share his amazing story. ❤️

Rabbits are social creatures and should be kept in pairs or larger groups. Introducing adult rabbits can lead to potentially lethal fighting; don't be tempted to get one rabbit and add a friend later. 🐰🐰

Once two or more rabbits are bonded, they should remain together, including for vet trips. It is no longer recommended to keep rabbits and guinea pigs together as it is very difficult to meet both animals needs. ❤️
