ILearning Canis ILearning Canis is where you can get free online advice on dog training, behaviour & grooming. Hi to all the dog-parents on here! Thank you for liking my page.

I am a Behaviour Trainer validated through the National Register of Dog Trainers and Behaviourists and have loved working with dogs since the age of 13 when my parents bought a kennels. I trained a variety of breeds in obedience and agility whilst growing up and studied Behaviour then adult teaching at Plymouth University. I currently work for Duchy College in Cornwall teaching animal behaviour, h

andling and training and have done so for 27 years! I'm always studying canine behaviour and psychology in my own time and love keeping up to date with new training ideas and methodology. I love helping people with their dogs, either visiting one to one, for which I charge, or online through my page giving advice and suggestions for free.

This is amazing news. The legislation anyone who has pets or works with animals has been waiting a long time for, it brings their welfare to a whole new level - and rightly so!

Penny Mordaunt MP has just confirmed that The Kept Animals Bill will go through its remaining stages in the House of Commons on the 19th of September and will then head to the House of Lords. Thank you to everyone for your tireless calls for action and so many organisations and individuals for your support! I’m very much looking forward to this vital bill for animal welfare becoming law, ushering in the end of: the importation of cropped dogs, puppy smuggling, live exports, livestock worrying, the keeping of primates as pets and the implementation of the dog abduction offence! 😊🥳💪

Some excellent information and advice on blue-green algae and the harm it can do our pets.

Blue-green algae can produce toxins that may be deadly to dogs. Do not let your dog drink, or swim in, water contaminated with blue-green algae.

As we are nearing Autumn (next week!) here are a few tips to keep your Furry Family Members safe and well.

Party Season

With Halloween and fireworks night on the way, make sure your dog feels safe at all times. Try Pet Remedy or Adaptil if they’re really struggling to stay calm.

Fading Light

It’s getting darker, and so it’s always best to make sure your dog is very visible when you are out walking in the mornings or evenings. Use high visibility wear, such as a hi-viz coat and/or flashing collar.

Fungi

While many mushrooms are safe, there are some that aren’t and it can be very difficult to tell which is which! We recommend keeping your dogs away from any mushroom, just in case!

Food

Chocolate, rasisins, grapes and nuts are the ones to watch out for! Make sure they’re out of reach from ground-dwellers and counter-surfers alike.

Conkers and Bulbs

Conkers are poisonous if chewed and hazardous if swallowed, and tulip or daffodils are also toxic. Ensure that any bulbs are planted where the dog can’t reach and be aware of where you local horse chestnut trees are situated!

Allergies

Autumn brings its own allergens, so keep an eye out for rashes and sneezing. If in doubt, call your vet!

Have a fantastic (and safe) Autumn!

Don’t look if you don’t want to know!
Makes me so mad people flouting the guidelines we’ve been given even when it comes to social distancing.
Get real 🤬

The new map means you can see exactly where people who died from coronavirus, lived

Please do try to keep your dog’s coat in tip top condition whilst unable to visit your dog groomer. Having lots of time with your dog is great especially if you are looking after their coat condition too. Lots will be moulting with the sunshine putting in an appearance at last so, get brushing and combing that dead hair out before it knots and mats. A human comb is great, next being a human brush if you don’t have any doggy ones. Any questions please feel free to ask 😄
