I've been in the pet industry since 2008, first started training in 2014 and have been trained to use all of the following equipment:

Halti style halters
Slip leads round the muzzle
E-collars
Slip leads round the neck or used at the base of the skull and behind the ears
Choke chains
Corrector spray
Collars that buzz or spray
Figure of 8 leads
Tightening 'no-pull' harnesses
Prong collars

I could use any of these to walk or train your dog, but I won't be happy and your dog certainly won't. There is a bloody good reason why welfare organisations and charities want these banned!

It doesn't matter how much experience someone has, please do your research and choose someone who DOESN'T use any of the harmful equipment listed above. Regardless of what they may say, it does serious harm both physically and psychologically and it kills me that there are some local pet services are using them.

Most of the dogs with unwanted behaviour I saw, trained or walked towards the end of last year and even the ones I've seen already this year are the result of harmful methods previously used, probably 90% of them were from a previous service used. Most of these people paid for bad, dangerous and harmful advice, some of them just didn't realise these tools and aversive methods were being used on their dog at all and the others didn't realise the damage these things cause and immediately changed.

Please give me a shout if you're unsure about the equipment you or someone else uses on your dog or would like advice before you head off for your next pet shop purchase.

A bit late to the party, but HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all!

A crazy busy 2025 had been and gone and straight into a busy 2026 already. I haven't stopped much at all and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart to you all for keeping me me busy.

A bit of a change this year and new things are afoot. For now though, I'm concentrating on the immensely crazy Crufts in March on the Kids Around Dogs stand, where I'll be chatting about dog training, dog and child safety/interactions, school visits and a whole load more... I'm looking forward to seeing you there, come and meet the team!

Like I said before, lots of new things coming together this year. I'm still fully booked for new dog walking clients, no training spaces available in this first half of the year and pet sitting is limited this year and a lot of dates taken already for next year.

Please remember, even though if I'm booked or unavailable for a service, I can usually recommend someone else. I will always choose someone with the skills and the same ethics and welfare values as myself. I'd NEVER choose anyone who uses slip leads/choke chains/shock or prong collars/figure of 8 leads/anything that tightens around the face or any aversive treatment. I will NEVER recommend someone who charges money to abuse your beloved pets, especially in the name of 'training' in return for a quick fix. That isn't training in any stretch of the imagination. The damage caused both emotionally and physically is absolutely unacceptable .

If you've got any questions on anything, including looking for recommendations, please don't hesitate to give me a shout.

Yesterday was a sad day. This lovely girl I have looked after since the beginning of time. She was the sweetest soul (and being a lab, a walking dustbin).

At the grand age of 16, KC has gained her wings to join her best friend Raffy

Our love and thoughts are with her family. It was sad, but was an honour to say goodbye one last time πŸ˜πŸ’”

Our 2 weeks have come to an end. I'll be sad to leave this sweet boy, but he's grown so much both physically and mentally and we've had a great time together. Time for this pup to introduce the 5am wake up call to his Dad now! Lol

Just a heads up, we are fully booked for dogsitting for 2025.

2026 availability is flying out the door and and now taking bookings for 2027.

If you've got dates in mind, give me a shout to avoid disappointment .

Let's talk RED FLAGS in dog training! 🚩🚩🚩
When exploring training methods, be aware of approaches that heavily rely on:
❌ Dominance & Being the "Alpha": Modern science shows our relationship with dogs isn't about a rigid pack hierarchy. Forceful attempts to assert "dominance" can create fear and anxiety.walk away from anyone who talks about leadership.
❌ Corrections & Punishments: Frequent use of physical corrections, lead pops, yelling, or tools designed to cause discomfort (like slip leads, choke chains, prong or e-collars) can damage your bond and lead to unwanted behaviours rooted in fear, not understanding.
❌ Force & Intimidation: Training shouldn't involve intimidating your dog into compliance. Look for methods built on positive reinforcement and clear communication.
Instead, seek out trainers who prioritise:
βœ… Positive Reinforcement: Rewarding desired behaviours makes learning fun and builds a strong, trusting relationship.
βœ… Clear Communication: Helping your dog understand what you want through positive methods is key.
βœ… Understanding Dog Behaviour: Look for trainers who understand the underlying reasons for behaviours and address them humanely. Do you really want to pay for someone to abuse your dog and cause physical and/or psychological issues? Yes, it's abuse!

Let's build happy, confident dogs through kind and effective training! ❀️🐾

I've just seen a heartbreaking video of a dog learning to loose lead walk. Dog showing signs of stress, wearing a slip lead tight up the back of the ears for discomfort and getting 'lead pops' for having a sniff at something.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, use an ethical professional who knows what they're doing when it comes to walking and training dogs, there is no place for this type of 'training' when it comes to welfare. A dog should never feel discomfort of pain or risk damage to any part of their body or be in fear of punishment for bad and unethical training by a handler.

And yes, it's local 😞
