German Shepherds originated in Germany in the late 19th century, bred primarily for herding and guarding sheep. They were developed by Captain Max von Stephanitz, who aimed to create the ideal working dog.

Care:
• Exercise: They need plenty of physical activity, such as walks, runs, and playtime.

• Training: Early socialisation and obedience training are crucial due to their intelligence and energy.

• Grooming: Regular brushing is needed to manage their shedding, especially during seasonal changes.

Health:
• They can be prone to hip dysplasia and other joint issues, so regular vet check-ups are important.


German Shepherds thrive in environments where they have a job to do and are part of the family.

• Provide plenty of fresh, cool water
• Walk during cooler hours (early morning/late evening)
• Never leave them in a parked car
• Create shady spots outdoors
• Consider cooling mats or frozen treats

While we are just settling into Cornish life we are offering 1:1 sessions from puppies to adults 🐾

We will be looking to set up classes hopefully later in the year 🐾

1:1 sessions can be anything from puppies, adolescents, behaviour issues to scentwork and tracking 🐾

I am a dog of the 21st century.

I am a Malinois
Gifted among dogs, I shine in all disciplines and am always ready to work. Today I get to lay on the couch all day.

I am an Akita Inu
Unparalleled hound dog, my ancestors were also employed in dog fighting. Today I am asked to be tolerant of my peers and blamed for my reactivity when one approaches me.

I am a Beagle.
When I used to chase my prey, I gave voice so hunters could follow me. I was leading the dance. Today I'm being ejected to shut me up and wish I could go back to recall in a snap of a finger.

I'm a Yorkshire Terrier
I was a dreaded rat hunter in English mines. Today I’m thought I’m not able to use my legs and I’m still cuddled.

I'm a Labrador Retriever
My vision of happiness is a dive into a pond to bring back my master the duck he just pulled. Today we forgot I was a sport dog I’m obese and got to play nanny

I am a Jack Russell
I can stand up to a fox bigger than me in its own den. Today I'm being blamed for my bad temper and they want to make me a lap dog.

I'm a Siberian Husky
I experienced the vast spaces in the north of Russia, where I could track sleds at an impressive speed. Today, my only horizon is the walls of the garden, and the holes I dig in the ground are my only occupation.

I'm a border collie
I was made to work eight hours a day, and I am an incomparable herd-working artist. Today I’m being mad because no sheep I’m trying to control bikes, cars, kids in the house and everything moving

If you like me, if you dream about me, if you want my beautiful blue eyes, or my athletic looks, but can't offer me a real dog's life, a life worth living, and if you can't offer me the job my genes want... so give up on me. If you like my looks but you're not ready to accept my traits based on rigorous genetic selection, and you think you can change them with your good will... so give up on me. I'm a 21st century dog, yes. But, taped deep in me, still sleeps the one who fought, the one who hunted, the one who sledged, the one who guided a herd. 💰 💰 💰 Fundraising Opportunity 💰 💰 💰

One of the cold truths about Jerry-Lee's story is that in order to help dogs like him and the 30+ kennel mates that he currently has at Camelot Kennels - Home of GSRE
German Shepherd Rescue Elite need a constant income stream which is underpinned by generous donations from people like you.
Putting aside the eye-watering annual vets bill the dogs everyday safety, security and enrichment comes at a cost.

So as part of this year's fundraising push Dave and Gemma are hosting a series of
INTRODUCTION TO MANTRAILING SESSIONS on the 8th and 9th June 2024.

With no previous experience required this is an event that you can get involved in with or without your own dog and by doing so make a much needed donation to the charity as well as seeing first hand Camelot Kennels - Home of GSRE, meet Dave & Gemma, and have some real fun with like minded people.

INTRODUCTION TO TRAILING SESSIONS at Camelot Kennels, Kelly Bray, Cornwall.

Any and all breeds welcome.

No Dog? No problem, we'll find you a 4 legged companion to hold your hand and although we can't promise that Jerry-Lee will still be here if he is he would love someone to make that donation and give him the chance to take part.
