We’re delighted to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Plantasia Tropical Zoo on the aquascaping of their Red Belly Piranha exhibit. 🌿🐟

Our aim was to design and install a naturalistic environment that not only enhances the display but also supports the health and behaviour of these fascinating fish.

A big thank you to the Plantasia team for trusting us with this project — it’s always a privilege to bring our passion for aquascaping into public spaces where so many can enjoy it.

🐢💦 Routine Maintenance for Tennyson the Turtle!
Today we gave Tennyson’s custom-built aquarium/vivarium – designed and crafted by ND Aquatics – a good pamper session.
From crystal-clear water to pristine basking spots, it’s all about keeping his home perfect so he can live his best turtle life.
He even made sure to keep an eye on me the whole time… just to make sure I did it exactly to his liking!

Flashback to 5 years ago…
I had the pleasure of working with the legendary team at EHEIM, who sent me one of their new braceless, rimless aquariums — along with all the top-of-the-line gear to go with it.

The original plan?
To set up a beautifully planted aquascape for the Science Museum in Cardiff — a showpiece to inspire and educate.

But then… COVID hit.
Like so many plans during that time, the project was put on hold and sadly never came to life.

Rather than let this incredible setup go to waste, we donated the tank to my old college, where we designed a stunning blackwater aquarium for Cardinal Tetras.
It became a fantastic hands-on learning opportunity for the students — a chance to care for and study one of the most iconic South American species in a naturalistic environment.

Grateful for how things worked out in the end 🙌

🌿 Remembering a Legend 🌿

Today marks 10 years since the world lost Takashi Amano — the visionary who forever changed the way we view nature inside a glass tank.

More than just an aquascaper, Amano was a true artist, environmentalist and pioneer. Through his breathtaking Nature Aquariums, he taught us that an aquarium could be more than a home for fish — it could be a living, breathing ecosystem. A reflection of the natural world. A moment of stillness.

I never had the opportunity to meet Mr Amano however, His legacy lives on in every planted tank, every iwagumi layout, and in every aquarist who's ever been moved by the beauty of balance, flow, and form.

Thank you, Amano-san. Your influence continues to grow, ripple by ripple. 🌱🌊
