A shorter line than usual for Toby at this urban location.

His nose hardly left the ground as he hoovered up the scent on a hard surface.

Places available on one of the May urban locations and three of the June sessions. July dates will be published on 01 June. 🐾🐾

This is a long one but worth showing the final 5 minutes in full (including my phone ringing!).

I started filming as I wanted to see what Brannon would do knowing that the TL had walked down one side of the wall and then back up the other.

You can hear the wind and see how undulating and open the terrain is.

The scent would have been doing all sorts of things after the trail had been aged for almost 25 mins.

Securing solid foundations isn't race.

Some dogs 'get it' quicker than others.

The important thing is to progress at a level which suits the dog.

For Bridie that means keeping the fire trails short (we do 4) so she stays focused from A to B without being distracted.

This was her fourth session and she has come such a long way since her first session when we had flip things as she wouldn't move away from her handler.

Never under estimate the importance of small steps.

🐾Do you want to do something fun with your dog where you work together as a team? 🐾

Julie is a GAK9 Trainer and has been working her two GSDs since 2019.

The GAK9 self-discovery method allows dogs to fully use their natural abilities, without complicated rules or patterns. The dog follows a person’s scent from an article they have left behind, locates the hidden subject, and is rewarded for their success.

Sport Trailing is suitable for dogs of all ages and any breed.

Dogs are worked one at a time and on a long line, making this an ideal activity for reactive and/or nervous dogs, or those lacking confidence.

If you’ve never taken part before first time places are available when the location is suitable.

They say patience is a virtue and at this point on Lottie's trail keeping calm and allowing her the time she needed to problem solve paid off.

The trail started on a road and then turned onto a track so a change of the scent picture.

The handler only moved when her dog needed to check further than the length of the line.

You had to have been there to understand why the dog did what they did (displaying good trailing behaviour) and then what prompted the handler to take the dog back to a decision point - this was an amazing trail from the team.
A single blind trail where I was staying a little further back and saying nothing.
The wind direction and environment certainly played a big part.
The dog was, in my opinion, following ground air scent it was when it became more airborne that the dog's behaviour changed and was taken back.
