What to do if your pet passes away whilst you're on holiday

When you lose a pet unexpectedly or outside of a professional environment it can be tough to know what the next steps are, especially if you are on holiday when it happens.

At Suffolk Pet Crematorium, we endeavour to make the process of dealing with your loss as easy and comfortable as possible.
If your pet passes away at a kennels or cattery whilst you are away, we are here to help. Once you’ve been notified by the kennels, you can simply pass them our contact details or get in touch with us directly. We are able to liaise with them to collect the body and can keep it cool in our chiller for up to 7 days until you are able to return and say your goodbyes properly on our premises.

When you return and you’re ready to visit us, call us and speak to a member of our friendly and experienced team who will discuss the process and ensure that your pet has a dignified and peaceful cremation. You can choose to receive the ashes in a wide range of urns, scatter pouches or tubes and are welcome to use our Farewell Room on your visit for a private goodbye, as well as the Lake of Rememberance to enjoy memories of the time you spent with your loved one.

If you would like your pet collected from the kennels, cattery or your home please call us directly to make arrangements in advance.

Leaving Lasting Memories at the Lake of Remembrance

Our Lake of Remembrance is a calm and peaceful spot situated within our grounds for visitors to sit and reflect on the furry friends that have graced their lives with pawprints over the years. Whether it's a recent loss or years have passed, grief never really leaves us, so having this space for people to sit and reflect is very important to us.

Treating animals with dignity and respect as they say their final farewells is paramount to our philosophy no matter the size. That's why we have been granted special dispensation to scatter the ashes of those animals cremated in communal cremations around the lake, ensuring that they find peace here. They never have to leave the farm.

If you would be interested in visiting the lake to reflect on your own loss, or would like to discuss the communal cremation pricing with a member of the team, please get in touch today.

Forget-"Them"-Not Seeds

At Suffolk Pet Crematorium, our emphasis is always on remembrance. In order to help ease the pain of their four-legged friends passing, we present every customer with a packet of forget-me-not seeds to help keep their memory alive forevermore.

These gorgeous plants are recognised the world over as the perfect flower to remember a lost loved one and, as you can see from the bloom below sent in by a customer, they are a beautiful addition to any garden. Plant them in their favourite place or somewhere that makes you think of them and enjoy their memory for years to come.

Saying goodbye at Suffolk Pet Crematorium

A lifetime of loving a four-legged friend is a blessing that for many ends far too quickly. Whether you're lucky enough to reach the natural end of your pet's life due to old age or faced with the unfortunate consequences of an illness, putting a pet to sleep is an incredibly taxing time for all pet owners.

To give our clients the time and space to grieve, we are able to offer spaces to say your final goodbyes in one of our Farewell Rooms. Here, you can bring your furry family member and their vet to put them to sleep in a peaceful and dignified environment. Bookings allow our customers to say their goodbyes for up to two hours in our space. If your own family vet is able to attend you can organise this with them directly, or you can speak to Cheryl at Every Paws Gentle Goodbyes who will be sure to give your pet a kind and compassionate farewell.

Please note - the service costs £100 + VAT and does not include the cost of the vet or the cremation service. Bookings are available from 9am until 3pm to ensure that our last booking has full use of the time available to them.

If you have suffered a bereavement, you can contact us by emailing [email protected] or by calling us on 01284 656565.
