I can’t help but think back to the dog I first took in on foster, and how far Gatsby has come.
He came from a hoarding situation.
Feral, covered in fleas, filth, and his own sh*t. Severely underweight.
He couldn’t be around cats or many other animals because he’d kill them.
He couldn’t be around other dogs without kicking off and starting fights.
He didn’t trust people. His resource guarding was pretty awful.
And when biting didn’t work, he figured out he could just swallow things whole so no one could take them…
the amount of times I’ve had to give that dog the Heimlich is ridiculous 😅
He was labelled ‘unmanageable’.
And it was suggested he should be PTS.
But it’s funny what happens when someone doesn’t give up on them…
Because now?
Gatsby lives alongside other dogs.
He lives with two cats.
He trusts. He settles. He shares.
The methods that ‘wouldn’t have been approved’ are the ones that gave him a life.
He was never unmanageable,
people failed him.
Here’s to many more happy years together ❤️
