🦐 Look who's claimed the best spot in the tank...

Meet the residents of our in-house nano scape — Red Cherry and Red Rilli shrimp, and they are absolutely thriving!

That cave you can see them disappearing into? That's our shrimp cave — a structure that sits in the corner of the tank with a hidden space underneath. The shrimp love it for moulting and sheltering, and you can even catch the occasional fish sneaking in for a look around 🐟

Red Cherry and Red Rilli shrimp are brilliant for planted tanks. Low maintenance, visually stunning, and they help keep algae under control too.

🌿 THIS or THAT — which side are you on?

Anubias vs Bucephalandra — two of the most popular low-light plants in the hobby, but they couldn't be more different in personality!

🟢 Anubias — the reliable workhorse. Hardy, slow-growing, thrives in almost any tank, and great for beginners. Attach it to wood or rock and pretty much leave it alone. Loves it.

💚 Bucephalandra — the collector's plant. Stunning textured leaves with an iridescent shimmer, tonnes of varieties, and a real talking point in any scape. A little more patience required but absolutely worth it.

Wild Type Betta

They are not big on showing off. They don’t have long colourful flowing fins. But they are one of my favourites. This guy spends his time investigating and rooting around his tank. He is just busy enjoying his life.

🌿 From brand new to thriving — just over 5 weeks!

This is our in-house nano fish and shrimp scape, set up on 15th June and photographed today. The difference is pretty amazing if we do say so ourselves 😄

What's made the difference:
💡 Great lighting — not only keeps plants healthy but really brings out the red in the shrimp and nano fish. The colours are stunning under the right light.
🫧 Low-level CO2 — just a small amount makes a noticeable difference to plant growth
💧 Liquid fertiliser once a week — keeping everything well fed

The plants have really established, the shrimp are active and happy, and the nano fish look incredible under the lighting.

We've been busy planning two very special events and we are SO excited to share a little sneak peek...

🌿 Saturday 24th October — Aquascaping Guest Artist Event
Two of our favourite aquascaping artists from Instagram are coming to the shop for a very special day. Live scaping, inspiration, and a chance to meet some incredibly talented hobbyists in person.

🐟 Saturday 14th November — Betta Day
A full day dedicated to everything Betta — care, breeding, scaping for Bettas, and plenty of Betta talk with fellow enthusiasts. Given our stunning new arrivals this week, you can see why we love these fish so much!

These will be small, personal events — proper hobbyist gatherings with people who genuinely love this hobby as much as we do. More details to follow very soon.

Tonight I wanted to share a customer tank. Sam Has had this set up for a while, and has been going in the plants.

Last week he upgraded the lighting to a new Twinstar EU 1200 V Pro. Straight away you can see the colours pop. The red plant growth will really improve over the next few weeks.
