I was shown a product last week. I hadn't heard of. Chick Gel.
To give to new hatched chicks for upto 3 days. It is 90% water and full of Probiotics to give the chicks all good start in life. I tried this on 2 batches of quail chicks this week. As soon as they are put into the brooder, they are on the gel and very quickly cleared it. The chicks do look well on it.

Nice surprise this morning. One of my Chinese painted quail hens has hatched her own chicks in the aviary this morning...

Nice to see 2 day old japanese quail chicks being very active. All chicks are started on a superstarter chick crumb upto 3 weeks old and then onto a 2mm grower pellet. Electrolytes in the water to keep them hydrated. In 7 weeks time the females amongst these chicks will be ready to come into lay.
We have quails for sale from day old up to point of lay, most of the time.

Quail chicks hatched yesterday. The chicks all look contented. I judge the correct height of the heat lamps by the behaviour of the chicks. A nice circle of chicks around the edge of the lamp is what i am aiming for. If there are a lot of chicks in the centre, they are too cold. If they are as far away from the lamp as they can get, they are too hot.
