Birds can be divided into altricial and precocial species.
Altricial birds hatch blind, featherless, and completely dependent on their parents — they remain in the nest for a long time and require feeding and constant care.
Precocial birds hatch more developed, covered in down, able to move around, and become independent much faster.
Young birds often appear abandoned, but in most cases their parents are nearby and still caring for them. For this reason, they should be left alone and not removed from nature. People should only intervene if a bird is clearly injured, weak, or in immediate danger.
If you are unsure, we would always recommend contacting your nearest wildlife rehabilitation service for advice before intervening. They can help determine whether the bird truly needs assistance.
