FLYSTRIKE
Fly strike is caused by flies laying eggs on to rabbits. The flies are attracted to damp fur, urine, faeces and the odour of rabbit scent glands. They lay their eggs on or around the rabbit’s rear.
Things to look out for are..
Digging into corners of hutch , they do this to dig away from pain.
Not eating or drinking.
Being quiet, lethargic and not wanting to move.
Sometimes there can be quite a strong smell from the hutch.
It is so important to check your rabbits twice daily for any of these signs, especially in this heat. Change their litter trays more often is also a good idea to keep the flies away.
Here’s a few photos of my rabbits and guinea pigs 🥰🐰
