If your dog’s recall is… let’s say “optional”, this workshop is for you.

We’ll be breaking recall down into a simple chain of behaviours that actually make sense to your dog — starting with conditioning a rock‑solid recall cue, and building all the way through to calmly sitting while the lead goes back on.

𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐞’𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫:
• how to build a recall your dog understands and wants to respond to
• conditioning the cue so it means something
• how to add real‑life layers like distractions and distance
• sitting politely for the lead to go on
• common recall myths (and why they cause setbacks)
• practical tips for taking your recall out into the real world

This is a supportive, small‑group workshop with plenty of individual guidance.

That means anyone can call themselves a dog trainer — with or without formal education.

Now, there are many brilliant, experienced trainers who have learned through years of hands‑on work, and I’m lucky to know several locally who I would happily recommend. Experience absolutely matters.

But because the industry has no minimum standards, and coming to the industry later in life, I made the decision early on to pursue Ofqual‑regulated qualifications — courses where your knowledge, practical skills, and understanding of behaviour are formally assessed.

For me, it’s about giving owners confidence that the information I share is grounded in current science, welfare, and best practice.

What a great month April was! The training side of Bude K9 Services officially launched, I ran a Loose Lead Workshop for 5 lovely dogs and their owners and supported several owners with problem behaviours. Lots of progress, lots of wagging tails!

In May I want to keep that momentum going. More 1-to-1 sessions are already booked in and I will be running a Recall Workshop later in the month.

New direction, new logo, new work kit! How good do these look? I love them!

Great service, as always, from The Poppy shed fabrics. Due to my dithering it was a speedy turn-around so that I had them in time for the loose lead workshop I'm running on Saturday. Thank you so much!

Last week I spent four days observing the IMDT Practical Instructors Course — a course I attended myself last summer, but this time from a completely different perspective.

Stepping back and watching the whole process meant I could really focus on the content: how instructors coach timing and mechanics, why certain behaviours are taught the way they are, and how group classes are built from the ground up. I also had some really valuable face‑to‑face time with my mentor to talk through approaches, cases and client work.

It was such a useful opportunity to refine how I want to support both dogs and their humans, and I’m excited to bring everything I learned into my 1‑to‑1s and workshops.

Back to school this week!

As part of the IMDT Mentorship programme I’m re-attending their 4-day practical dog training course that I originally attended last July. I'm looking forward to approaching this with fresh eyes and a slightly different perspective.

Alongside qualifying as a trainer with the IMDT, I’ve also joined their 2026 Mentorship Programme — a year of structured guidance designed to support trainers as they grow their skills and their businesses.

This programme gives me access to experienced IMDT mentors who offer support with:
• case discussions and training approaches
• class content and class planning
• behaviour strategies
• business development and client support
• ensuring I’m offering the most appropriate, ethical solutions for every dog and owner I work with

It means that while I’m building my own practice, I also have a team of highly experienced trainers behind me — people I can learn from, check in with, and bounce ideas off as I continue to develop.

New chapter, new look!

With my IMDT qualifications under my belt, I’ve refreshed my branding to reflect my shift into professional dog training.

I’ve been keeping this one quiet for a little while…

I passed my IMDT assessment last month and I’m now a qualified dog trainer!

Along with the level 3 and 4 correspondence courses I've completed, it’s been a huge amount of work, but I have absolutely loved the process. I’m now excited to grow, learn, and help more dogs and their humans.
