Love this!
Letโs talk about a common misconceptionโฆ ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Some owners believe that a horse standing completely still for the massage therapist is the ideal scenarioโฆโฆ but actually, thatโs not always the case!
While we appreciate a well-behaved horse, sometimes a little freedom to move is exactly what we need. Movement helps us assess how they move, or even if they move certain areas at all! ๐
Here are a few tips to help your massage therapist get the best results for your horse:
๐ If safe, tie them with a slightly longer rope. This gives them a bit more freedom without compromising safety.
๐ If youโre holding them, allow some movement. Donโt rush to correct them for shifting around, it helps us see their natural reactions.
๐ Avoid stroking or rubbing them during the session. Although itโs done with good intentions, it can distract them (and us) from the areas weโre working on.
๐ Consider their environment. If theyโre calmer with a companion in a nearby stable, try scheduling their session when thatโs possible.
๐ Keep them loose but secure. Leaving a head collar and lead rope on (with the rope resting over their neck) gives us flexibility to secure them if needed, while still allowing some freedom.
A relaxed and happy horse will respond so much better to our massage, mobilisation, and stretching techniques, helping us release their tension and improve their movement! ๐ธ
