Unfortunately we sadly have had two deceased cats handed into our Broughton Astley branch, both have been involved in road traffic accidents.

One of them is male neutered- white with grey tabby/black patches, found Dunton Bassett Cross Roads. He is chipped, but the microchip is not registered.

The other is female, black and white. Found outside Holt Farm. She is not chipped.

If you believe either of these may be yours please contact the practice on 01455 282512.

🤩Our June winner of the Braveheart award is GOOSE!🤩

Goose has been coming to Broughton Vets since July 2023. He had no prior health concerns so we saw him for his routine boosters and health checks, until he was brought in to us in May 2026 for an appointment as he had been off his food and didn’t seem very well😔. The vets examined him and he had some blood tests taken to try and work out what was wrong🩸. His owners decided to try using medication to tempt him to eat, and to bring him back the following day for further tests🧪.

Goose returned the next morning and testing began, the results suggested that Goose might have Addison’s disease, which was also contributing to elevated kidney values🫘. Unfortunately, Goose deteriorated significantly throughout the day despite the teams best efforts to improve his condition😳. The fluids and medications he was receiving didn’t seem to be helping, his blood pressure continued to drop, he was extremely lethargic, and it was touch and go as to whether he would pull through😰. Goose was sent for emergency referral in the Broughton van, complete with 2 vets on board, to Willows that evening🚑. Willows took over Goose’s care, and after even more blood tests, fluids, intensive care, and medications his condition started to stabilise😮‍💨. His Addison’s diagnosis was confirmed, and once stable he was discharged from Willows with medications on board to keep his Addison’s controlled🥳. Goose then returned to Broughton for a follow-up appointment to check on his progress, he had more bloods taken here and his injection to control his Addison’s was repeated💉.
Goose will need to continue having repeated injections and blood tests to control his condition and monitor his progress, but we are pleased to say he is currently doing well🥹.

The team believes Goose is a very deserving winner of the Braveheart award as he has made such a remarkable recovery from a very near death situation😢. He has showed incredible resilience and strength, and is continuing to demonstrate this throughout his repeated blood tests and injections🫶🏻. He is a pleasure to work with and it is great to see his tail back wagging in practice🥰.

Please join us in saying WELL DONE GOOSE! 💙

Black & White Neutered Male Cat Looking for His Forever Home 🖤🤍 aka Max🐾

This lovely black and white neutered male is believed to be around 6 years old or older.

He has been in our care for the past two weeks after being found as a stray. Despite our efforts to locate his owner, no one has come forward to claim him.

We’ve also tried to find him a new home ourselves but, so far, haven’t had any luck.

He is an incredibly sweet, gentle, and quiet boy who loves affection and enjoys a peaceful environment. He spends much of his day sleeping and is happy to curl up in a warm, comfortable spot. He has a calm, loving nature and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a relaxed and affectionate cat.

He deserves a safe, loving forever home where he can enjoy the comfort and care he has likely been missing.

If you think you could offer this handsome boy the home he deserves, please get in touch❤️

‼️ Another HOT DAY = Another Reminder! ☀️🐶

Please remember that it is too hot to walk your dog in this weather.

Hot pavements can burn your dog’s paws, and high temperatures can quickly lead to heatstroke, which can be life-threatening.

If it’s too hot for you to walk barefoot on the pavement, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws! 🐾

Please help keep our four-legged friends safe by sharing this reminder. ❤️

☀️HEATSTROKE☀️

☀️😎The weather is going to become extremely hot, especially going into this weekend and into next week!😎☀️

⚠️🦮Please be careful taking your dog for a walk in this heat.

⛔️❗️Even a ‘quick’ walk can be too much!

🖐🏻Remember hot pavements can burn paws! If it’s too hot to hold your hand down on, it’s too hot for your pet!

🐾📞If you are concerned your pet might have heat stroke please do not delay and phone your veterinary practice ASAP for professional advice.

🐶DOGS🐶

☀️Make sure they have access to the shade if outdoors, ideally keep them inside.
☀️Have access to cool fresh water throughout the day.
☀️NEVER leave your dog in a car
☀️Use cool mats, fans, wet towels for your pet to lie on.
☀️Use pet safe suncream on exposed parts of your pets skin (tips of ears and nose). Especially if your pet has white/light coloured fur.
☀️Be careful if you have artificial grass, this can cause burns to your pets feet

🐱CATS🐱

☀️Offer them cool water and replenish frequently
☀️Ensure your cats do not get trapped in sheds, conservatory’s, garages or green houses
☀️Keep them indoors where possible, in a cool ventilated room.

🐰SMALL FURRIES🐹

☀️Ensure to keep their enclosure out of direct sunlight. Move the accommodation into an area that has plenty of shade and air circulation.
☀️Offer them marble/slate/tiles/concrete slabs to lay on. You can refrigerate these and they make great cool spots for them to sit on. Cool mats work too- however make sure they don’t get nibbled!
☀️Offer them fresh cool water to drink, and replenish regularly.
☀️Wrap a frozen bottle in a tea towel and place it in their pen, it may help to reduce the air temperature
☀️Try not to handle them/fuss them too much.
☀️Please be vigilant for cases of flystrike in your rabbits.

🦔WILDLIFE🐝
Spare a thought for wild animals. Keep bowls of water out for wildlife such as birds and hedgehogs!

Signs of heatstroke:
🥵Panting excessively
🥵Breathing difficulties
🥵Excessively salivation/drooling
🥵Vomiting (dogs & cats)
🥵Restlessness
🥵Collapse
🥵Seizures
🥵Red gums

❗️ALL animals are at risk of heatstroke, although some more than others. These include:

🐾Brachycephalic breeds (Pugs, Shih Tzu, French Bulldogs etc)
🐾Puppies
🐾Geriatric dogs
🐾Overweight dogs
🐾Dogs with thick coats
🐾Animals with underlying health conditions

🌡If you suspect your dog is showing signs of heatstroke⬇️

DO
✅Move your dog to a cool/shaded area.
✅ Gently use COOL not cold water over their body.
✅Offer them small amounts of water to drink
✅Call your vets immediately if you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke

DON’T
⛔️Do not cover their body with a wet towel, this will trap the heat in.
⛔️Do not force your pet to drink, as this may lead to them aspirating, and this can cause aspiration pneumonia.
⛔️Do not use COLD/ICE water, this can cool your pet down too rapidly leading to shock.
