Blue Cross Bromsgrove rehoming centre

Blue Cross Bromsgrove rehoming centre The Bromsgrove centre opened in 1986 and is now one of our largest centres. Located in Catshill, Bromsgrove, it serves a wide base of the local community.
(1)

The site operates from a former commercial boarding kennels, but has been completely rebuilt over the years. The original purchase of the site was largely due to a generous bequest from a local benefactor who recognised the need for an animal welfare presence in the area. Our primary function is the intake and rehoming of both cats and dogs into new, loving homes. The kennel block has 25 dog kenne

ls, and 25 cat units as well as an isolation unit for cats. The cattery was fully refurbished in March 2013. We also rehome cats and dogs through the Home Direct Rehoming Service which has now been rolled out across the organisation. This service means we can help more people rehome their pets without the need for their animals to come into a rescue environment. We have a large team of dedicated volunteers and foster carers. The Centre has 18 staff employed by Blue Cross, which consists of Centre Manager, a Re Homing Supervisor and Veterinary Supervisor, 3 Receptionist, a Volunteer Co-ordinator and a team of animal welfare assistants. Address: Wildmoor Lane, Catshill, Bromsgrove, Worcs B61 0RJ

Please note the phone lines are open 10am - 4pm ONLY. Centre Manager: Neil Edwards

🐾 Rehoming Update – This Week’s Happy Tails! 🐾

We’re so excited to share some wonderful news! 💛 This week, Henry, Winston, Lottie and Clover have found their forever homes 💙💙💙💙

We've had an update from Ted....."Just a quick line to let you know Ted is settling in really well. He’s an absolute joy and everyone who meets him loves him. I even took him into
the office and he attended a production meeting with me. He likes to perch in the window watching the world go by in my home office too"

Each one has started a new chapter and we couldn’t be happier for them! 🏡🐶🐱
A huge thank you to everyone who supports us, whether by adopting, fostering, donating, or sharing our posts. You’re helping make these happy endings possible every single week.
If you’re thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, we still have many animals waiting for their forever homes. 💕

In July last year, three small pups suffering from mange came into our care after being found as strays. With barely any fur left, they were given special medicated baths and lots of veterinary attention to help them recover.

Thanks to the love, patience, and dedication of the team, the boys soon regained their health and were ready to find their forever homes.

In August, Sidney set off to his forever home, and we were delighted to receive a recent pupdate. Looking happy, healthy, and full of confidence, he is almost unrecognisable from the little boy we first met. Seeing transformations like Sidney's reminds us why rescue work is so rewarding.

"Sidney has come on leaps and bounds since being re homed last August!
His speed is super fast and he loves playing with a football, especially on the beach, which is good because we are re locating to Cornwall and he will continue to have the best life, running free along the coast!"

In temperatures like this, it’s especially important to keep a close eye on your dog - particularly flat-faced breeds, which can struggle more in the heat. 🔆

This is Skye's story. 🔽

On a mild 15-degree spring day, Skye, the French bulldog, went for a normal walk with her owner. After just a mile, she was already struggling to breathe, and within minutes, she collapsed from heatstroke.

Her owner rushed Skye to the vet, who immediately put her on oxygen, and after an hour, she was revived. Still lethargic, she was then rushed to our animal hospital in Victoria, where we continued treatment and she pulled through.

Flat-faced breeds like French bulldogs, pugs and Boston terriers are especially at risk.

Their shortened skulls, compact airways and narrowed nostrils make panting (their main way of cooling down) far less effective. That means their body temperature can rise to dangerous levels in minutes, even in mild weather.

Watch for signs of heatstroke:

- Heavy or rapid panting
- Excessive drooling
- Lethargy or collapse
- Distress or confusion

If you suspect heatstroke:

Move your dog to a cool place immediately, wet their coat with cold water, and contact a vet immediately.

Heatstroke can become fatal in minutes. Skye survived, but only because help came quickly.

We urgently need more foster carers for pets in need. 💙 That’s why Clare Balding is helping us spread the word!

Every day, vulnerable pets arrive in our care, needing a safe place to stay while they recover, rebuild their confidence, or wait for a loving new home. But right now, we simply don’t have enough foster carers to support the growing number of animals depending on us.

When you foster with Blue Cross, we’ll provide support, guidance, and cover costs.

Please help us give more pets a second chance. 🙏 Apply to be a foster carer by clicking here > https://www.bluecross.org.uk/volunteer-pet-foster-carer

Abandoned in a tiny crate behind a housing estate, seven terrified rabbits huddled together with nowhere to turn. 💔

When Charles, Carlos, Toto, Lando, Oscar, George and Susie arrived at our rehoming unit in Exeter, our team carefully placed them in foster care so they could experience a real loving home.

Initially, they were too frightened to trust anyone. But with patience, kindness and love, they slowly began to feel safe - even taking treats from their fosterer’s hand!

Now, every single one has found a loving home where they’ll never be abandoned again. ❤️

We couldn’t resist sharing Sharon’s ears with you all. 👀 In all our years, we’ve seen some impressive ears, but Sharon might just take the crown.

Sharon and her two sisters arrived in our care as part of an accidental litter, with the help of a fellow rescue, specialising in small pets.

After 82 days in our care, Sharon, Shelley and Sandra have all found a home together.

Did you know that rabbits are one of the most misunderstood pets?

Rabbits are naturally social animals. In the wild, they live in groups for safety and comfort - never alone. Without companionship, they can become lonely, withdrawn, and deeply unhappy.

Give them the companionship they deserve. 💔

The progress in Merrin is unbelievable, thanks to our loving and patient team at our Southampton rehoming centre!

Despite the incredible progress, Merrin hopes someone will take a chance on her. 💔

After coming from a very hectic home, she was understandably overwhelmed and is now desperate to feel safe and secure in a quiet home.

It might take some patience, but once that bond is formed, it will feel more rewarding than ever!
