16-year-old Leo from Bromsgrove has been diagnosed with leukaemia and needs a stem cell transplant so he can have a second chance at life.

As a reminder, Leo’s family have organised an event this Sunday (23rd November), where people can join the register.

This will take place between 1pm and 6pm at St Godwalds Church Hall on Finstall Road in Aston Fields (just up from Banners).

You are invited to come down and complete some quick swabs with DKMS, to find out if they are a match for Leo or another patient in urgent need of a stem cell transplant.

If you can't make the event on Sunday, you can request a swab kit from the first link below where you take 2 swabs inside your cheeks and one inside your inner lips. You then send it off with the enclosed pre-paid envelope and they will be analysed to see if you are a match for Leo or someone in need of a blood stem cell donation.

The whole process only takes a few minutes and could save a life.

To see more on Leo's story or to request a swab kit, please visit - https://www.dkms.org.uk/get-involved/events/leo-s-donor-drive

With tonight being one of the most popular days to set off fireworks, here are some last-minute tips to keep your dog safe and happy. We are thinking of all the pets out there who might find tonight difficult πŸ’›

The text reads 'Dogs all react differently to fireworks so identify your dog's individual ways of coping and be prepared to support them. Let your dog hide away or play as they please. Give your dog comfort if they seek reassurance, ignoring them won't help. Make sure your house is secure so your dog can't escape. Walk your dog well before dark. Drown our whizzes and bangs with music or TV. Never force a dog outside.]

Did you know that October is ? 🐢🐱

Here are some simple ways to improve your pet's wellness:

- Give them daily exercise, this will not only improve their physical health but also their mental health too.
- Feed them a balanced diet, a complete and suitable diet full of nutrients will help to keep your pets healthy and happy.
- Make time for play, setting time aside for engaging play time is great for your pet's mood and gets their brains working.
- Allow them their alone time, this will let your pet regulate their emotions and get them used to when you're not home.
- Biiiiig stretch! Give your pets time to stretch it out, usually after a nap.
- Plenty of nap time, like us, pets need to recharge. Allowing them to nap without being disturbed will make sure they're well-rested.
- Bonding time, make sure you're spending time with your pets so they learn to be comfortable and happy around you!

Following these tips will ensure your pets are living their best lives 🩷

Jane Goodall was an idol of mine growing-up who started my fascination of primates and inspired me to learn as much as I could about them which lead me to wanting to work in animal care. She spent her whole life raising awareness of the connection between animal welfare, nature and people. Very sad news. Gareth
