✨ Welcome to Honey Hedge Lane…

…where life slows down, muddy paws are always welcome, the kettle is always on, and there’s always room for a little magic.

Hello, I’m Alice. šŸ¤ (+ Simba and pumba) 🐾

Not so long ago, my life looked VERY different.

For 11 years I worked as a dog groomer—my dream career. But living with (EDS) and other health complications meant I could no longer safely do the job I loved. Almost overnight, EVERYTHING changed. My health. My future. The life I’d spent years building.

I found myself rebuilding from the absolute ground up in every part of my life.

Then something unexpected happened…

I picked up a paintbrush.

Not because I thought I’d be any good at it, but because I desperately needed something that brought a little light into one of the darkest chapters of my life.

I paint when my body allows me to. Some days I can paint for hours, others my hands, joints or exhaustion simply won’t let me. But somewhere between the brushstrokes, something changed. Painting quietened my mind, helped me heal and, somehow I find myself again. 🄰

Today, I still live with daily pain, but I’m genuinely happier than I can EVER remember being.

Honey Hedge Lane grew from that.

For now, it’s simply a place where I can share my paintings, my progress, and the little world I’m slowly creating.

I’ve always been obsessed with the English countryside, wildlife, dogs and whimsical stories that remind us there’s still magic in ordinary life.

I hope Honey Hedge Lane becomes a cosy little escape where robins perch on old garden tools, golden sunlight filters through woodland leaves, muddy paws lead to a crackling fire, and a cup of tea somehow tastes even better after a countryside walk.

Expect cheeky donkeys, mischievous sheep, bossy chickens, dogs convinced they’re in charge… and the occasional painting that looked much better in my head! šŸ™ˆ

Life is serious enough.
Sometimes we all need reminding to slow down, laugh a little, and notice the beauty we’ve been walking past all along.

Thank you for being here at the beginning of my journey.

With love,

Alice šŸ¤ŽšŸ‚šŸ‘šŸ¾

*CLOSING* Dear all,

This is an incredibly difficult message for me to write and I will of course send everyone a message to cancel. I am sorry if I am slow to reply to your messages but this is a very difficult time.

After more than 10 years of grooming and caring for your wonderful dogs, I have had to make the heartbreaking decision to close the salon with immediate effect due to my health.

I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), and over the past year my condition has worsened to the point where continuing dog grooming is no longer possible for me. My hope is that stepping away will allow me to regain some quality of life, though at this stage I am unsure whether I will be able to return in the future. For now, I will be closed for the rest of the year.

I want to thank every single one of you from the bottom of my heart. Your loyalty, kindness, and support over the years have meant more to me than I can ever put into words. Grooming your dogs was never ā€œjust a jobā€ to me — I built real relationships with each and every one of them, and I will miss them all so very much.

I’m so sorry that I don’t have anyone I can personally recommend, as local groomers I trust are not currently taking on new clients. I truly hope you are able to find someone who loves and cares for your dogs as much as I always have.

As I look for a gentler path forward, I’m hoping to move into animal art — something that has really helped me recently and allows me to stay connected to the animals I love, just in a different way. In time, I’d love to share this with you and also find ways to raise awareness of EDS, a condition that is still so widely misunderstood. Your support, as always, would mean the world to me.

Thank you for trusting me with your precious dogs and for being such an important part of my life for so long. This has not been an easy decision, but it is one I have had to make for my health.

With so much love and gratitude,
Alice ###xx
